Well, I have a beater laptop that runs Windows, a desktop that's for gaming running XP and my main computer is a Mac (MacBook).
I may get CD-Bootable Ubuntu for the desktop to mess around with Linux.

The Vista beta is over. It's not available from the MS web site.
The final version will be out January 30.
I've been running the final version for about 2 weeks now. Still many many bugs!!
I would wait for SP1 before buying it.

No, but when a bug is found it is reported and patched and a new version of whatever can be out within hours or days. With windows a bug might be reported, it might be fixed (how do we know? It's closed source...) and the fix might be out....sometime....eventually....free (if you're lucky, there are reports that 'updates' will be renamed 'improvements' and charged for).
Open source will always beat closed source for actually finding and fixing bugs.

You do understand that Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft is not the LTSP (Long Term Support) release, right? It's more like a transitory release. 7.04 Feisty Fawn will probably be offer the longer support option of up to 5 years and be more stable.

But I found a lot more bugs in Ubuntu 6.10 or Fedora core 5 then vista final.
Ubuntu 6.10 is garbage, any RH based linux is also garbage.
I am still using ubunti 6.04 (the stable version) and it works fine though. As far as windows vista goes, any x.0 software will be buggy. Always wait for x.1+. This goes for windows as well.

Vista has been in development for 5 years...Ubuntu has new releases every 6 months. Besides, if you find a bug in Ubuntu you can report it and it will be fixed (or report it to the individual program developer and they'll fix it) and the patch could be out in the same day or week. It's highly unlikely any vista bugs will be fixed as fast.
Ubuntu 6.10 is garbage, any RH based linux is also garbage.
I am using 6.10 and have not had any issues to report.
