GHS Infinity Steels?

Hi there,
I'm curious what your hands didn't like about the Hi Beams? I have a set on my Geddy Lee Jazz as well as my Cirrus 4.

Been playing the hi-beams for years! I always had good results with em, but they were always a little rough on the fingers fresh out of the pack. After one or two sessions they take on some oils and get less abrasive and then sound good till they break.
These GHS seemed a little less "new" right out of the pack, definitely could feel the difference of the coated strings. Seemed nice and easy to play.

See! That's what I thought!
I've heard for years how smooth DR strings are but I have found them to be rough feeling on my fingers as well. I do like their sound although a bit mid scooped, Fat Beams have more of a mid presence to my ears.
I just ordered 4 sets (1 free) of the Infinity Steels I'm looking forward to trying them out.

I'm starting to consider the difference now between round core and hex core. These GHS are hex and the DR HI-beams that I'm so used to were round core. I'm not sure I enjoy the higher tension response of these GHS in comparison.See! That's what I thought!

I just ordered a set of the light gauge to compare also, we'll see how that goes.

I put a set of the infinity steels on my Geddy Lee Jazz. My first impressions. Not bad. I like the red.They sound like a set of slightly broken in steel strings. I have the 44-102 set. They sort of remind me of the DR Neon set ,not surprising. Good lows, not as bright as I usually like but to be expected from a coated string. They seem to lacking in the mids though.Again not as gritty as I like but not bad. This set seems as flexible as the DR Hi Beam set I had on previously 45-105 and the tension is comfortable not too tight. One pet peeve. The windings at the tuner end feel like barbed wire to me. Sharp!
For $5 though? Let's see how they last.

The Prototype are coated RW stainless on a round core
Are the Infinity steels coated RW stainless on a hex core?
Are there any other differences beside gauge between these two?

Originally, yes. There was no difference between the two save the core shape.
The LTD Infinity Steels have tweaked E/B covers, and also have tapered ends.

I've never played the prototype round core set, and it's been over a year since I've played the hex core set, so I'm going to be of little help.
I ordered two sets of LTD Infinity Steels and received them yesterday. But first, story time:
I recently acquired a Schecter Sixx that came with Ernie Ball Slinkys on it. The shop had also included a brand-new set of GHS Contact Core Super Steels for free. After a few weeks, I decided to swap out the Slinkys for the Super Steels and was delightfully surprised. They have a great growly tone, a very musical midrange character, and are quite balanced. They aren’t harsh or brittle in the highs. They also work well with my fingers - not rough but grippy and easy to play. Basically, my ideal steel string. I am surprised I never tried these strings before.
The Sixx has a string-through bridge, and I opted to take advantage of that fact when I restrung it. This inadvertently took the “contact core” feature out of the equation, but it gave me confidence that I would like regular Super Steels just as much.
I was going to order Super Steels for my 5-string Warwick Corvette (so both of my basses could experience GHS goodness), but decided to jump on the Infinity Steel clearance sale bandwagon instead. I installed the 5-string set on the Corvette last night, and I can confirm that they are very much in-line with the rest of the Super Steel family. Plus, I think the red strings look great over bubinga and wedge woods.
I can see why some would make the comparison to some DR coated strings tonally, but I can’t stand DR strings. I’ve had far too many negative experiences - too many broken strings, and the Black Beauty coating is like playing on razor wire (it made slides especially painful).
It’s a shame that Infinity Steels never sold well enough to stay in production, but at least I’ll have Super Steels to default to when the last of GHS’ clearance stock is gone!

I've come to the conclusion that the tapered E string doesn't jive with my bass - the Gibson style 3-point bridge on my Thunderbird doesn't have individually height adjustable nuts, so the difference in string thickness makes action between strings inconsistent and just doesn't quite work. The tapered E design will work better on a better bridge.
I ordered a bunch of medium ga. 4-string sets off this $5 deal, but i'm not going to keep them, if anyone wants some just send me a PM!
Nevermind, all sold within 12 hrs of classified listing....

I remember buying a couple for $7 at bass strings online in 2016. Loved the hell out of those strings. I even used them in a studio recording with my band. I really really wished GHS never discontinued them and wanted to buy more but at the time I purchased a set they were all sold out by the time I wanted more three months later.
Now that it’s the present time and have tried a lot of strings since the Infinity Steels, I can never shake the feeling of how beautiful sounding the Infinity Steels were. I sometimes go back to my rough recordings just to hear those strings sing! So I went to just strings to look at some GHS products and found that they still carry a couple sets but at a whopping $25 (RIP $7).
So I ordered two sets just to see if they even carry them before I get a message from them saying they no longer have them in stock. Luckily, I did not receive such an email from Just Strings other than a shipped tracking order so I’m excited to get them in this weekend!!
