GIBBY BFG BASS?

I saw the Les Paul reissue thread. Pretty cool!
And in regards to the finish, I seen a few BFG guitars, and its kinda cool.
Very raw, no gloss, and the surface is pitted and rough. Totally sweet.

If you read the comments in the Gibson BFG web page, you'll read that a guy got one for 1500$ so the 2775$ write on their site is not the street price that you could expect. I try to find one on line but never succed. This is the only comments that I read from someone who get one and his are very positive on the gear. About the look, sure it's not necessarely completly in my taste but you could be sure that if I find one I gonna be very proud of this one, if the tone is really as good as describe by the only review that I had could find.

I have a BFG guitar in silverburst. I can say that the BFG finishes are, in general, overstated in the pictures. It's more subdued (well at least less severe) in person.

That guitar is chambered just like this bass, and the chambering plus the nonexistent finish means that it really rings. I'm guessing the bass is the same way. The three pickup setup is also pretty interesting.

Love the BFG guitar, but Ive never been a fan of the feel of most Gibson basses, so I'm not gonna seek out this one. The price tag is way out of line with the fit and finish also IMO. Would definitely be awesome for someone though.

frozilla, I say go for it if you like it. the reviews I've read have been positive overall and most owners seem very pleased with the sound of the bfg. don't worry too much about the negative comments by the Gibson bashers, they say the same things on every Gibson thread.

Looks aside, I understand from an aquaintance that owns one that it's a very good bass..... 2 minutes on the interwebz found me one for $1655.00 - Since when is MSRP from the manufactures website street price?

I was talking MSRP, not street. Street is also way too high for what this thing is, for the reasons I already explained.

It's also an absurd piece on the face of it. Not in the league of, oh, their backwards Flying V or some of their other monstrosities, but pretty jokey.

They need to learn from Greco:

1) Three CHROME pickups with CHROME pickup rings like 60's T-Birds
2) MAPLE neck
3) Dump the tone control, replace it with 3 volumes only
4) Fix the pricing or only sell a limited number of them

With 3 volumes and your hands, you can get almost any tone without a tone pot.
Below the black one hasn't had FretsOnTheNet rings added yet, the bottom one has had pickup rings added:

Applies to this too.......

You're absolutely right, I don't really care for that as a way to produce a product and personally it's not a bass I'd own - But as I said I have a friend that owns one, his verdict was quite positive.
