Gibson basses. When Burt calls.

First, fire and re-vamp your entire customer service department, hiring customer-focused people. Maybe this has happened over the last few years.(Yes, I had a bad experience and won't touch a Gibson anytime soon).

Once finished making the 'massive neck-dive re-issue series' of basses, I'd be interested in an original, from-the-ground-up series of 5 and (gasp!) 6 string basses. A Felix Pappalardi signature EB1 (and modern updates/variations of that style) would be neat as would a 5 string Embassy promoted from the Epiphone line.

First went on sale in 1960 but from the Fender website: "By the end of the 1950s though it was time to expand the Fender bass category and Leo Fender and his staff turned their attention to a new “deluxe” bass guitar design in 1959."

I don´t think there was a production before the 60s. I´ve read about prototypes with Jazzmaster-style pickups from 59. Depends on the definition of firmly rooted...

First production Jazz March 1960 I believe, anything from '59 would be a prototype and if they exist presumably very expensive!

BRING BACK THE G-3

Rebrand American made products as Gibson USA and move Gibson branded production overseas (World Factory, Korea) to start making iconic Gibson basses that can compete in the $500-$700.

Offer rare gibson colors like Pelham and Frost Blue, Inverness and Kerry Green, etc.

Also take the Epi brand down to the Squire Affinity range.

After that, I'm guessing I head to the executive lounge, grab the finest bottle of scotch I can find and start lighting cigars with $100 bills.

First, I’d change the design of the SG/EB bass so that the bridge is at the end of the body, and set the neck deeper in the body, or even extend it to 32”. Neck dive solved! Second, I’d bring back the Les Paul recording bass, and put those single coil pickups they used in the DC JR. Third, I’d tell the guitar department to bring back the Marauder, with an ash body & maple neck. Through a bone to the tele players!

Fully agree on the Embassy - but actually have it be a USA made nitro embassy. It's a fantastic design. I sold mine because I wouldn't commit to getting it refinished in nitro. It was a great bass, I just hated the finish being so shiny and plasticky feeling. Heck do a version with one Thunderbird pickup called the Newport that is 30" scale.

Reissue:
2013 EB
Les Paul bass
RD
Ripper

also make a Gibson version of the Epiphone Embassy

+ different price points for each model, for example:
junior ($500 - $1000) no lacquer, no binding, cheaper parts/electronics/paint, no hard case, etc.
standard ($1000 - $2000)
custom ($2000+) best materials, more options (colors, wood), looks super pretty, binding, block inlays, etc.

Thunderbird (R and NR) with Alnico pickup in shiny chrome finish
Ripper, Grabber, Victory
Personally I'd like to see a 335 with modern SG pickups too. Oh, and the EB-6.
(overall I think the trinity of SG, modern Thunderbird, LPJ is quite nice already, but to dream...)

Split into 2 categories: Gibson Original and Gibson Modern. Reissue a lot of fan favs under the Original brand, go wild with the Modern (just give me my headless SG Bass already).

Oh and Burt? Screw that Eastwood Newport, start making your own (based on the modern Embassy shape).

If I the CEO of Gibson calls in his right hand man Burt, and tells him to find someone with fresh ideas to run the bass guitar department, and you get the call from Burt. What changes would you bring?
Invest R&D into your Michael Tobias Designed Basses! You had a cutting edge, Forward thinking Bass Maker bought them out & did nothing! now you want me to give you my good Ideas!! ***!!
