My first real bass was a Gibson SG and I traded it in my chase for the perfect bass (had not yet realized what I basically needed was practice and experience). Since they stopped making them I have had regrets for selling and, if not GAS, Acid Reflux for wanting another new SG.

Found this 2015 one NOS so had to tale the plunge. Still playing aroond with set up but the tone is different enough from my others I expect she will be around for a while.

After having a few weeks now to play on it, gotta' say I'm still quite surprised at this Q-80... I can't point at any other bass that it sounds quite like. It's got amazing clarity and sustain, and there's a very strong mid-range presence my Thunder Series V doesn't have. Sounds a lot more like the SG bridge pickup solo'd. I guess it's my lack of experience with the 'Grabber' pickups... seems very un-Gibson-like. I wonder what fence they were swinging for?

What the heck - I'm really enjoying having this bass in rotation.

*and this hockey-stick headstock... well, it kinda' grows on you.

I've replied in the thread that you've linked, but will just say that more replacement options on the table are always a good thing. The newest factory-installed-two-point will turn 45 this year and that's a long life for most pieces of hardware on this planet...

Wow! I love how the Gibson sunburst looks almost like a spotlight, highlighting the pups, hardware and woodgrain. Beautiful.

Agreed that the flame looks good. How's the weight on it?

Doesn't feel too heavy but is probably 9+ lbs. My scale won't give an accurate weight.

Newer Les Paul basses are not my thing personally, but I'm certain that these Barts offer a nice range of usable sounds and then some.

How's it sound with those tapes?

To me it sounded very thumpy like it would have fit perfectly in a reggae band. It wasn't my taste but it wasn't a bad sound at all.

The "binding" is the sides of the maple top, like Paul Reed Smith does on his guitars. Its a unique look and a very nice touch.

Thanks! This is my first bass with Barts in ages. I have just started experimenting with it but so far have found a couple of sounds that I really like.

I have a set of Gibson branded Schaller M4 tuners most likely from the mid-late 70's that I would like to get into someone's hands who might be looking for such a set for use on a vintage bass/restoration.

Is there anywhere like that on the WWW somewhere?

The Last Bass Outpost has probably more Gibson devotees than any other forum I have ever been part of.

Also try Invalid Link Removed Lots of info on Gibson basses and I think there is a forum there as well.
