It's my dads old bass he bought 3 Grabbers back in the day.
I assume the tuners are loose or lack of tuning stability?
I'll have to ask hi next time I see him

Beautiful instrument ! I like that , I would do that . So you still have the coil split ? I see the pull pots but how did you do it ? Thanks

Yeah, I kept the split coil. Both volume controls and the tone control are 500k audio taper pots, so all I had to do is move one of the volume pots with the push pull switch to the tone location and rewire it accordingly.

I did make it a bit more complicated as I had trouble removing the factor press fit knobs and bunged them up, so I ended up replacing both pots with identical 500k audio push pull pots, but with solid shafts. I also replaced the damaged knobs with black set screw knobs from stew Mac.

It ended up being a bit of work as I ultimately replaced all the wiring and electronics except the pickups, but I really prefer the single volume control and pickup switch setup.

Looks great. I always respect a player that isn't afraid to delve under the hood and change things to make a bass a better fit.

Thanks. I waited awhile since the 3 way switch required me to ream one of the holes a little. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I've removed those knobs, just takes patience with something like a screwdriver or whatever will fit underneath and give you leverage.

Re: rubber bands, those tuners can come unglued at the post they slot into. If you don't want occasional rattling, something that'll keep a bit of pressure on is required.

Yeah, mine weren't super glued, just on really snug. I tried to gently pry them up, but couldn't make them budge without fear of denting the wood. So I resorted to pliers on the knobs and gently rocked them back and forth. They came off pretty easily after that, but they did get marked up during the process.

I was able to pop the push/pull pots off of my EB14 by using a washcloth. Slide the cloth under the stock knobs and wrap it around as far as you can. Then, slowly pull up as evenly as you can. It's easier to do than it sounds, and it minimizes the risk of damage to the pots. And I'd go with Gibby-style speed knobs.

Yes, the stock pots are split shaft.

I think both the hipshot and gotoh 3/8" tuners are available with the same footprint.

They are. The GB640 would fit you P bass. The GB350 fit the smaller diameter hole and are a perfect fit on the new Gibson EB5
