Gibson Grabber/Ripper/G-3 club

this is my 78 Grabber..

the neck says "G-III" on the heel, but the guard/electronics are Grabber..

the line on the forearm side of the body is were someone cut a large piece off the body.. then glued it back on with epoxy.. the bridge is from a Spector NSX.. at some point i'm going to refinish it, replace the bridge with something much lighter, probably a hipshot or a badass.. and replace the tuners with Hipshots..

i like the way it sounds..

i'm most likely going to paint it white, or silverburst..

Oh Gosh I JUST got GAS.... :help: That silverburst concept is ungodly. Just call it Ghost Grabber.

Any body remember the Gibson "Observer" flat would strings?

I had a '75 Ripper, that I ended up trading for a 71 jazz, which was my warhorse for many years. Sold the jazz for enough money to get a Tacoma 5 and have the septic tank pumped.

Dude...SILVERBURST!!!

I only qualify as a "club lurker" -- I owned a Ripper from 1978-79. Don't have any pics of it, but I wish I did, since it was kinda unique: It was originally black with an ebony fingerboard, but the previous owner had stripped the finish off the body then slathered on a horribly thick clear gloss coat over the natural maple. I subsequently stripped that finish off the body and sprayed it with a clear satin. Then I replaced the pickguard with a custom made one machined from 1/4" thick aluminum (painted flat black) that only covered up the electronics cavity. So the net effect was a big wide open expanse of natural maple, but with tiny black accents and an ebony fingerboard.

Bass got stolen out of a Volkswagen Beetle parked in front of a Boston recording studio in 1979, so maybe someone has that bass now?

Hi

After adimiring performaces of Ralphe Armstrong with the 2th Mahavishnu Orchestra, I Bought my First brand new Ripper Fretlles Bass in New York... it was on may 1980... I was really sorry when I had to sell it 4 years later...
Last year I've finally got a wonderfull 1979 Fretless Ripper Bass (Ebony Fingerboard) wich is almost the same I had in the eigthies exept for the color...
I' was lucky enough to find the present owner of my first Ripper, and he accepted to send me some pictures of it.

My first one, the day I've bought it in 1980

ignore the white thing (it was only a may 62 jazz in oly white:bawl::bawl::bawl:)

let's see these sweet Gibsons!!!!

(oh yeah, don't ask about the cape...i don't remember why!!)

I love the cape, it goes with that Gibson. I used to own a g-3, if I still owned it I would kick it when I got mad.
