That is indeed a great sounding bass! I'm long in Fender Precisions so I'm definitely biased, and yet saw a comprehensive bass shoot out on a video last year and thought the EB won all the marbles.
Moreover, Sam Ash music stores in LA have been blowing the bass out in the price range you indicate.
their acoustic guitars are among the best-sounding to my ears, and i love their new semi-budget J15 - really sweet ax and a good value.

Or if you don't want to hit the new links that's ok - the Fender cost is $800 higher than the Gibson.
While I dont like some of the stuff Gibson has done the last few years as I explained and I have had some bad QC, I still like Gibson basses when done right. Same with rickenbackers, man I have had some crap ones but done right and they are great....same with Fenders. QC is key.

I bought a SG faded last year that was perfect right out of the box I wouldn't have a problem buying another one.
For all of you completely clueless Gibson/Fiat haters out there. Two of the most reliable, flawless and best bang for the buck products I've bought in the last couple of years...
I guess some people just gotta hate, go figure.
Why do some people feel the need to characterize anyone disagreeing with their brand choices as being "haters?"
I'm a long-time Gibson owner and bass player who has a lot of regard for that company's name. So I'm far from clueless about Gibson. It's also the reason why I'm currently one of their biggest critics. If I didn't respect their name half as much as I do (and know for a fact just how excellent a product they're capable of delivering when they want to) I wouldn't bother calling them to task at all.
When somebody you care about is screwing up royally, you're not doing them any favors making excuses for their behavior or failings. Same goes for companies you care about when they're dropping the ball.
To be fair, I believe he was referring to the people who call others "suckers" or "sheep" simply based on their purchasing choices or preferences. I don't think he meant to imply that anyone who disagrees with his brand choices is a hater.

The lack of him quoting anyone made me think his remarks were directed to the OP. Mea culpa...
I found one as low as 550. I would've bought it if I was in the market for a new bass. It played and sounded great. It had a more modern hifi sound than a Thunderbird.
I played strats for years, but if I was still playing guitar, I'd have nothing but newer gibsons...you bet your ass I'd buy it in store and play 5-10 before buying though. Love les pauls and gibsons in general, quality control is abismal.

And to be fair...my thread started out because I too loved/love Gibson's and have the same TBird as you as well as another...Although, it took three basses to get an acceptable 50th anniversary...The simple truth is their quality control, especially for an American Made instrument......SUCKS .... Indonesian instruments from Epiphone come out flawless.... Makes no sense. Other than, rumor has it, Gibson in the Nashville, TN area is one of the unhappiest places on Earth to work.
Regarding Fiat, back in '83 they literally had to leave the US a huge market because of quality issues...Fix It Again Tony.....
I simply made reference to Fiat today because although I think their 500 is actually cool...."you" owners rated them one of the LEAST reliable in "initial new car quality" for 2015... I due however think the "institutional green" of yours is pretty cool....And I'm even tied to Fiat myself somewhat. Although my purchase was prior to the Chrysler purchase in 2014, my avatar shows my 2010 Dodge Challenger in Plum Crazy Purple... Which by the way, the 2015 Challenger was in the same "2015 Least initial new car quality as the Fiat 500 ....Go figure
I am a die hard Fender guy (I own 9). Last month for my birthday I bought a 2015 Les Paul Special double cut away and I love it. The wider fingerboard is great for my big beefy fingers. GC had it marked down to $599 (with hard case).
