Gibson making basses again

Bummer! Sounds like it's been a long road.

In other news. I received my Gibson EB Bass 5 String T today. I'll do a full write up with pics once I have a little more time with it. The bottom line. I like it.

The Good:
-Light, almost exactly 8 lbs. A little neck dive on the leg but none on a strap
-Nice neck, meaty but not too much, D shape, three piece and comfy
-The pots have a push/pull like the previous model.
-Sounds unlike any other bass I own. It may be light but it's got some serious tone.
-Everything works right. I know it should but it doesn't always on new basses priced high and low.
-Easy to get a nice low setup

the meh
-Fret edges need dressed better. Frets themselves are fine but the edges are a little rough. Can't feel it when playing. I'm just picky

I really like how it looks too. The neck joint is a little weird but doesn't negatively effect anything just different. Though Gibsony. I know many don't the look. I also don't care.

I'm sure I'll figure out more in the coming weeks but this is much more bass than I expected. I'm super happy with the weight and balance on strap as I'm sensitive to that.

Glad to hear they retained the coil taps. That is probably my favorite feature on the 2013 EB.

OK, guess I'll have to reconsider my earlier criticism. Still prefer the EB13/14 design, but it offers the same tonal versatility and is quite a bargain. Definitely worth a look?

I was planning on dropping in a preamp but with the coil taps already in there, maybe not.

Have rehearsal tonight for a gig tomorrow and I plan to play this Gibson. Spent last night tweaking it to my liking and have it Where I want it. Rehearsal will tell me more about how it will work in a mix. Bass is a winner though. Really surprised me. Didn't think I'd like it so much.

Curious to hear how you like it in the mix. I imagine the 2017 and 2013 versions would sound very similar since the only real difference is body shape. I find that my 2013 sounds great with my band.

Just realized you're in cincy. I'm in the Dayton area.

Pretty sure it will sound great with the band.

Dayton eh? How goes it up there?

That's awesome!

That was a neck I played for awhile.

So I played my new bass at rehearsal last night and gig tonight. At rehearsal, loved it. Sounded great and comfortable. at the gig. Very well balanced on strap, love the neck, seriously great neck. Didn't get to really test it out because it was a terrible room. All concrete and metal with the band backed up against glass. Terrible sound guy too, not that I was in the PA. Just a lot of feedback. So bas was okay but couldn't say because of other issues.

Some more observations. This is my most comfortable bass. It is light and balanced. The neck is really something special. Seriously one of the best 5 string necks I've played and I've played a few. The pickups are hot as hell. Still ahve some tweaking to do with them. The bass isn't noisy but I do plan to shield everything tomorrow morning. My desk (where I play most of the time) is a perfect EMI,RF storm.

This bass is a winner.
