Gibson making basses again

Ordered somethings from Musicians Friend and got an email about the new Gibson guitar line up decided to check it out.

Gibson 2017 EB Bass T

Seems pretty promising. Of course I'm a big Gibson fan anyway.

I guess we won't know how it is until somebody actually plays one, but assuming it is made in the USA, that seems like an awful lot of bass for a grand.

Gibson put those on the earlier EB model and 2015 Thunderbirds. Those are excellent bridges. I think they are good enough to have replaced the 3 point on a Thunderbird with one of those. They aren't cheap, but they work well.

If it was made somewhere other than the USA, it would be badged as an Epiphone.

I guess the T is because it has a T-bird headstock.

I don't like it. It looks too normal/generic coming from a company that mostly makes quirky/niche basses. I guess they are trying to go more mainstream to see if the can make something that willsell more than 1,000 copies.

$999 for a US-made bass shouldn't be overlooked. The only better deal out there is every US Peavey ever made.

Just so my stand is known: I own an Epiphone, love a number of Gibbie designs, not crazy for this one and sad to see the 2013/14 bass go, but I've no problem with them putting out this one. If anything my only problem is with how they couldn't be arsed to come up with a different name.
This said, it's weird to see folks pile on the Big G for doing everything they're routinely accused of not doing bass-wise... I guess it's just cool to hate them for every and no reason around here.

I just got the Musician's Friend catalog and they were showing new (to me, at least) Les Paul-style hollow body basses. Not my thing, but not bad looking either.

getting a new bridge design, or 2nd party design, is a good idea, because their old bass bridges are a hard turn-off for me

Ehh, not a fan. I just wish they reissue the EB-2d, just give it a better bridge but my tastes don't really reflect the "trends" in modern bass equipment.

I'd rock it...
Has all the ingredients I prefer...Dual humbuckers, ash body, massive bridge, 4+1 headstock... And ~$1000 for a USA bass...plenty of room to add coil-tap switches and preamp...
What's not to like?
Looks can be said that they seem borrowed from the Tobias line...but they own that anyway...

Honestly, I wish they would just stick to their "Hollow Body/ES-335 Style/Old School EB Series" shapes. I feel like all these attempts at making a guitar with asymmetrical horns are turning out to look like really poorly designed Fenders.
