Gibson making basses again

It usually does when it comes to Gibson, unfortunately.

It's the same with Fender... Everyone complains that they don't come up with new designs, and then when they do, everyone dumps on it.

I guess we won't know how it is until somebody actually plays one, but assuming it is made in the USA, that seems like an awful lot of bass for a grand.

That's about what the going price was on the previous Gibson EB series.

What exactly is "new" about a 34" scale swamp ash/mapleneck/rosewood board with 2 humbuckers?

I'd rock it...
Has all the ingredients I prefer...Dual humbuckers, ash body, massive bridge, 4+1 headstock... And ~$1000 for a USA bass...plenty of room to add coil-tap switches and preamp...
What's not to like?
Looks can be said that they seem borrowed from the Tobias line...but they own that anyway...

One thing I want to say is; just because the majority doesn't like something doesn't mean that they're "sheep". I personally can't stand when people use that excuse when people express dislike or are hating on something they like (or think is cool, a good idea etc.). Not everyone are sheep (of course, some are), maybe the majority just happened to agree on disliking something. We never agree on anything here

Now, about the bass... I don't hate it, it's REALLY cheap for a USA Gibson so I would love to hear it! I don't think if purchase it just because that's not my style of bass. But it doesn't look horrible

Ehh, not a fan. I just wish they reissue the EB-2d, just give it a better bridge but my tastes don't really reflect the "trends" in modern bass equipment.

getting a new bridge design, or 2nd party design, is a good idea, because their old bass bridges are a hard turn-off for me

I don't know why they didn't use the bridges on the Money Basses (like in my avatar), Thunderbird Studios, and Gibson Tobias basses more often. They are a great bridge! They just got super stuck on that 3 point for some reason.

I think Gibson could learn a thing or two from Fender... I'm sure many people would be interested in vintage-correct T-Bird II and IV reissues, and EB0, 2 and 3 reissues as well. And maybe even Custom Shop relic'ed basses. Don't they already do it with their guitars anyway?

Ordered somethings from Musicians Friend and got an email about the new Gibson guitar line up decided to check it out.

There was a thread where Gibson had announced it's new lineup and there were no basses on it. People panicked. Consumers were trampled. Cats and dogs living together; mass hysteria.

The bitchin' will never cease. They have some of the most unique and icon basses, but nobody buys. So they go more mainstream, and theres whining about them mot being what they usually make. And its not a P or J copy to boot.

There seems to be a paradox around Gibson. If they make a bass design that doesn't incorporate traditional Gibson appointments then they are simply ripping off Carvin, G&L et al. If they incorporate traditional Gibson appointments then people pour scorn on those. Now people are wistfully reminiscing about the 2012 Gibson EB bass?!?! At the time I saw people calling it un-Gibson, and a Mosrite copy... People are also bagging on the new bass because it has a Thunderbird headstock?!?!?!?!!?

Gibson cannot win!
