Gibson making basses again

Jack Bruce was well know for his muddy undefined sound, it haunted Cream like a plague, Clapton often speaks up about it and how he should have bought him a Fender

well that, and the fact that he overdrove his tone into a total buzz saw in the Cream years. Of course he was Jack Bruce and his playing style worked just fine in the context of the power trio stuff he did with Eric and Ginger.

Felix Pappalardi was another player who used EB's (EB0 and EB1 I think) with just a s**t-ton of full on, totally overdriven amp (Sunn?) tone. Worked well for Felix in Mountain, that's for sure - Never In My Life and Mississippi Queen are still classic examples of that tone working like a charm.

I'm not too crazy about the colors though. If they made a white one with a maple neck I would be like drool.

Last time I commented on a Gibson bass I got put on TB super secret probation. So, all I'm gonna say this time is "WOW". You can read any meaning, positive or negative into "WOW" as you want to.

Gibson put those on the earlier EB model and 2015 Thunderbirds. Those are excellent bridges. I think they are good enough to have replaced the 3 point on a Thunderbird with one of those. They aren't cheap, but they work well.

Ordered somethings from Musicians Friend and got an email about the new Gibson guitar line up decided to check it out.

Seems pretty promising. Of course I'm a big Gibson fan anyway.

"This is the low end done Gibson style...". If low end is $999, I won't be asking which son to give up for high end. With a neck like that, they should nickname it, " The Giraffe".

Anyway, I agree with your post. Fender build a signature bass and you get endless "how many more P and J basses do we need?". They try something different and get grief for it. They try something marginally different and it's "that's just a P bass with a facelift!". The difference might simply be that people then slyly buy all these new Fender basses?

Yup. Create a negative review for a bass you never played because of incorrect wording. What a guy.

I don't know why they didn't use the bridges on the Money Basses (like in my avatar), Thunderbird Studios, and Gibson Tobias basses more often. They are a great bridge! They just got super stuck on that 3 point for some reason.

I know this is about Gibson basses,but

if you don't mind me showing my Hipshot Supertone 3point bridge,that I replaced the original 3point chrome on the Epiphone Les Paul Standard bass with gold hardware.

Considering that I never had a problem dialing in the 3-point or ever had a problem with intonation or anything else from those, it meant something to me. Babicz bridges are a bit easier to set and adjust than the 3-point. Both are equally solid once set. For the record, I don't have much problem with bent plate Fender bridges, either. I don't know why people hate the 3-point bridge so much, since it's just different. Now, the 2-point was indeed a pain to deal with, but it's another one that is plenty stable once you figure it out.

After so many years of trying, Gibson could finally have a widely popular bass, thus proving that losing streaks were made to be broken. Hope springs eternal. It actually looks pretty graceful to me.

Gibson already have a widely popular bass: The Gibson Thunderbird.
Time will tell if this one will become as widely popular as the Thuderbird, but I doubt it.

As far as I know, Gibson isn't making new Thunderbirds for the time being. Go figure.

They might be content with the Epiphone TBird sales. Who knows? The Classic IV Pro is pretty close in spec to a Gibson and at a much lower price point.

The bass at the link looks part-Tobias (body shape), part-Fender (headstock), part-G&L (pickups). Don't the people at Gibson have any original ideas for bass?

Then again, Gibson desecrated the Tobias brand within a few years of buying out that company - a middle-finger salute to bassists who respected what the Tobias brand meant pre-Gibson - so why should we care?
