As to the uncertainty of some above about whether set neck or not- it is set neck. Actually read the "Read More" in the MF ad linked in the OP or even zoom in on the pics provided in the ad , it is pretty obvious.
US built, quality hardware, set neck, 24 fret under a grand. Probably balances OK and has body contours. Yeah, plenty to complain about before anyone has even played one.

I posted this on the earlier thread, but this redesign reminds me of their Tobias line (s). I like it, and look forward to trying a 5-string model out. :thumbsup:

I'd really rather it wasn't though, Gibson's build quality (or at the very least quality control) is abysmal these days. I have a 2011/2012 T-Bird and as much as I love it, it's terribly made. The internals are messy, the truss rod cover and pickguard are warped (the truss rod cover doesn't even lie flat, it's a flimsy POS), there are flaws in the finish... I've played Epiphone T-Birds that have felt much better made. I wouldn't buy a new Gibson product unless I gave it a good looking over inside & out beforehand.

I like Gibson's designs, this doesn't look like a Gibson, this looks boring. Bring back all the awesome Rippers, Grabbers, T-Birds and maybe even a proper RD, build them properly and then maybe they'll sell a few. Gibson's reputation for building stuff like crap probably had more of an effect on poor sales than the models themselves, especially considering how stoner rock and doom have grown in the last few years.

The shape isn't super exciting, I preferred the previous EB design (2012-15?) That said, it's not the end of the world if the thing sounds and plays half-decent. What's more disappointing to me is that there's no mention of the coil tap option being available. That was one of the things that made the previous EB really interesting.

not a hater (particularly not an uniformed one). Played an EB 0 back in the day (68/69), hated the no definition mud from that bass. Also played some Grabbers/Rippers when they first came out .. not a huge fan of the character of those basses either. Used a T-Bird for a little while in the late 70's (who didn't ;)), but while it sounded ok for rock, it was kind of unwieldy IMO/IME.

I did play a short scale Les Paul Recording Bass, the walnut one, on some studio dates some years ago - situation where the producer wanted that specific bass to be used. It was odd getting used to the 30.5" scale, but otherwise it was a nice bass to play and recorded really well.

I don't have any experience with modern (post '80's) Gibson bass models, a Fender 4 guy to the core.
