Hey, I have not gotten out to try one of the Gibson SG bass guitars, how much do they weigh on average? I feel a 10+ lb is heavy, like an old Peavey...thanks, dy.

Gibson SG bass...weight?

I played one and found it rather light. Didn't really think about it as that was what I expected. Remember, the body is not the same depth as a Fender or many other basses. My original EBO (effectively the same design and mahog neck & body as the SGs) weighed just short of 7 lb. With the short neck, it was like wearing nothing. 
Just looking again at this thread... does anyone know how much a Gibson SG 4 string short scale bass (c2019) actually weighs? I couldn't find the info on the Gibson website. Thanks... Tony
Unlike mufflers and iPhones, those older SG basses were made out of wood which is a natural composite that can vary tree to tree and even slab to slab from the same tree.
FWIW, my 2007 SG Supreme weighs 7.8 lbs, just checked it. It may be a little different than a typical SG bass though, as it has a flamed maple top instead of being all mahogany. But go on Sweetwater's site, they have SG basses in stock with actual weights listed for the instruments they have available.

It is however, one of nature's finest products.
I had one. It was by far the worst sounding, worst playing bass I've ever owned, but it was also the lightest at about 7 lbs.
