Found one and it's really taking my liking!
Haven't played one, but i really like Gibson basses and SG basses, so i'm sure i'd like it.

Anyone have sound clips?
I know the guy in Clutch has one, but his is modded.. :meh:

anyway, if you have any experiences with this bass, share with me.

Thanks!

also, what price would one go for?

The people who I know who have played them said that they do not sound all that great. A very limited range with very little bass. One guy changed the pickups with better results. Nice looking bass though.

Yeah the SGZ is longscale -

They also tend to be pricey, from about $900 - $1200

I quite like them. No real comparison to the EB0 and EB3 - a lot more modern and controllable sound...

Here are a few very short soundclips - just straight into my soundcard, so no amp or anything else to colour the sound.

Gibson SG-Z soundclips

There have been a number of people who have owned them that say the pickups don't sound good and don't have any lows, but those clips sound great! I'm thinking maybe the people who didn't like them were expecting a deep EB mudbucker sound.

I can tell you that in ALL of my searching to try and buy one,.ive never,.EVER, seen one for sale on the after market.
If you've come across one,..you're a lucky individual. Ive never seen one in person,..and ive looked hard.

Whomever owns the handfull that Gibson produced,.they are not selling them as after market basses (its a rare day when you see one for sale)

Personally,.,without ever having heard one,.id buy one just for the sake that they are that hard to find. And the few reviews ive heard about them have been more-than-satisfactory to say the least.

The fact that not a single used one has come up for sale in all (ALL!!) of my searching,.says atleast a little something about this bass

Been a long time since I played one. They look cool, play good and sound pretty lame. No idea why. Maybe a pickup transplant would help.

I know this is a dead horse, bit since i have one of those, I felt like I needed to say something about these basses. Yes, they have a rather low output, especially for a Gibson and I also thought about changing the pickups.

Then I got my first big cab and large tube heads after going with hybrid stuff for more thab two decades. The SG-Z, played with an svt or the Marshal vba 400 and an 810 cab is killer and it is actually a plus that it does not but out too much bass, especially with a hardrock or even harder bandsound.

It cuts through nicely and at least mine has enough low end.

Downside with mine was a twisted neck, so it got a totally new fretboard, but it is great....
