Gibson vs Fender

Bass: Fender, not my first choice, but i'd take a fender bass over a gibson one.

Guitar: Gibson, probably. But it would be a hard choice!

I'll go with the crowd:

Bass: Fender J
guitar: Gibson les paul

I like Gibson guitars more, but Fender basses are > Gibson basses in my book=)

Gibsons are way better.

First of all they have more than two shapes
have the best tone
look awsome
have more than one pup (I know a jazz has two but they are skinny, the same as one humbucker like on a gibson)
have 24 frets
and the headstock isnt rediculously large (accept for the T-Bird)
AND have a cheap version of all the gibson models (epis)

+1. I like Gibson guitars, but for bass it isn't even a question: Fender.

Only standard P basses have only one pup. The gibson pups are annorexic in comparison to my MMs tho . . .
I personally have never used frets 22,23 or 24 (other than harmonics at 24, but you dont need the fret there for that)
Its just rediculously ugly
They have cheap versions of the fenders too . . .

Not to mention gibson are one of the few companies to have worse QC than fender

+1 i may not be that knowledgable but i have defonately heard of squire... i hear they make cheap fenders and are run by fender.. plus gibson headstocks are hideous.. yes fender headstocks are over sized but they are classic.

I would definitely choose Gibson. I love the warm thump of an SG bass with some Rotosound nylon short scale flatwounds. Plus I love the way they look.

Gibson guitars are better, Fender basses are better.

I'm backwards:

Guitar: fender (a keith richards-style telecustom with humbuckers)
Bass: gibson (preferably a long-scale eb-3 with a varitone and the mudbucker a little closer to the middle of the body)

Not a fair question. I prefer the Fender bass, but love the Gibson guitar tone. I guess I dislike the Fender guitar tone less than I dislike the Gibson bass, so I guess Fender wins by a small margin.
