What is the new "gift" button for and why is it dangerously close to the "Like" button?

It came and went. See Post #11.
The new one is gone. You can still find it on any user's profile page (assuming they don't limit you from seeing said page), next to the "Follow" and "Post Feedback" buttons - at least on a computer. Assume somewhere similar on a phone or tablet.
No, it's not an option. It's you (plural) consciously misleading us into paying, because it's exactly where we're all accustomed to clicking the "like" button.
First off, most things like button locations are set by default in the base software the site is built on. Second, there are several steps involved in a gift. It's not a one click "oops". Third, I've never seen any evidence the admins are trying to trick anyone into anything. In fact, this is one of the most low key sites I've seen in that regard. Paul and the gang are savvy; they're not out to alienate the users.
