Gig Bag decision- long post alert but please help!

Thanks for all of the replies, I am trying to be better these days about being impulsive (I guess THAT's obvious!). I think both the ibanez and ritter bags are not available here. The ibanez looks nice but as was stated, I don't think it is what I am looking for. My wife liked the incase better as well (she is a musician also), so I think that swayed it. Now, slim or tour? I've been conversing with the person selling the tour bag on here and I am thinking that it is nice that the packs are removeable, but the slim looks very nice and I love that internal storage pocket. My friend has the slimbag that comes with the john mayer guitar and I was very impressed with it. hmmm....

I have 2 Sadowsky Portabags and love them! They have the most room in the pocket for "stuff". I know you said you didn't care for it but I have never experienced the issues with mine that others seem to have. I also have 2 of the Incase DUB Bags and for 2 basses they are the bomb! They don't have the space for "Stuff" that the Sadowsky does and neither does the tour bag for that matter. If I were forced to choose the toughest bag for the money of your choices I would go with the Incase...Just my $.02

Peace,

T

I know a few people have said the they prefer the sadowsky case (and I had asked this on another post a while ago), why do you feel that way (or do you?). The sadowsky just doesn't look as good to me for some reason, not sure why. If I want to put a laptop in the case, it looks like the incase slimbag will protect it better. How is the sadowsky to carry with the backpack straps? Sometimes I need to walk fairly long distances with it (NYC, Atlantic City, etc.), which is why I have my mind set on the backpack straps in the style of the incase and contego. Basically, now my thought is that I like the contego because of price, and it looks very well built, but will I say in a month "I should have just waited for the little bit of extra I needed for the incase." Or, will I realize that they are all good and it is a gig bag and should not be consuming this much of my energy! (Yes, I'll look back on my week this way I'm sure!)

ProTec Contego is great, but the front pocket will not accomodate most laptops, but might hold one of the smallest ones. My only gripe with this bag is that the rounded bottom contour means it may fall when leaned against a wall (which is why I prefer the Body Glove).

Here's to hoping that you never experience those issues i.e. the metal clasps on the backpack straps causing the bag to fall to the ground with possible damage to your instrument.

I'm starting to think that not having my laptop in the bass bag may be a good thing...hmmm.

Reports from Sadowsky are that they fixed that issue, or at least he said he was looking into it. One thing I am sure you get with him is customer service, I just don't think that the bag itself is what I need. I think tonight I flip a coin!! Someone slap me and tell me to make a decision already!

So I wound up deciding to get the contego and bought it from the perfect bass a few minutes ago (it sucks having a night off- the money goes out instead of in!). It looks well built and right now fits the family budget the best. I will continue to bring my laptop in my laptop bag when I need it at a gig. I really appreciate all of the advice and thoughts offered in this thread, and several other people have PM'd me that they have followed it as well and made decisions based on the advice. When I receive my contego I will post a full review with pictures, etc. Thanks again! Keep discussing if you want, just don't make me second guess myself!!!

There was an older model of the Contego that didn't have the neck support. Those should all be out of the pipeline, but make sure you get the updated version that has the neck support. I think this was a few years ago, so don't worry too much but I thought I'd give you a heads up just in case.

The higher end Warwick Rockbag's are excellent - well worth a look if they're reasonably priced over there.

Hey, with this much discussion over a bag, there's going to be one hell of a thread next time you're choosing a new bass! :D

Hahaha! Yessir. I don't think I'll be choosing a new bass anytime soon though (as everyone breathes a sigh of relief!) I just traded for a warmoth p/j last month that is really agreeing with me, after having a gecko for a few years before realizing that 35" scale was too big for me. Now I am in love with the 4 string again. next bass will be a sadowsky, which will be a few years down the road.

I quite fancy a nice PJ myself and was thinking along Warmoth lines (already have two Jazz basses with Warmoth bodies).

Glad to hear you've been weaned off those nasty 5 string basses... :hiding:

yeah, I LOVE warmoth's stuff. This particular p/j has a mahogany body with a birdseye maple jazz neck, and just received dimarzio p/j pickups yesterday, which I am really liking so far. I am actually preferring the p alone, but tomorrow and Sunday I will be gigging with it so time will tell. I do miss my B string once in a while (especially for fingering in higher positions- disco inferno is a lot easier at the 8th fret than the 3rd...), but 4 string is fitting my hands nicely right now.

Disco Inferno eh? LOL - that's one tune that never seems to get left out of our set, I'm sure I'll be playing that one in about 16 hours or so. Nice gig tonight for McLaren-Mercedes. ;)

Got any pics of that Warmoth? It sounds very much my sort of thing. I know I'm asking for a hijack, but hey, it's your thread anyway, right? I've just posted my two babies in the quilt maple thread.

Just noticed you're in NJ, so bring that new bass along to the GTG on August 3rd!
