Different bass, different player... lotsa variables.

I think it is enough that you are hearing tones that you want to work towards. You can go out and get a 751 and the SA; but, you will still have some different stuff going on. Trial and error. No secret recipe to get around the shedding.

That tone needs either a good neck soapbar, as in the video, or a P; though the Delano JMVC neck pickup will also get close. Then, roundwounds, a pick, a decent distortion box, like the Grizzly, and a decent amp will get you there. And some technique.

My Fender is a MIJ Precission Lyte Deluxe. Mahogany body (light as a feather), P/MM pick ups and 3 band bosst/cut preamp. All set flat it has a natural wood tone and a soft,nice low midrange boost..If I plug it through the Sansamp , all that midrange fades and that bass loses all the "mojo".

As I said , Sansamp sometimes doesn't work.

I had it on my DVR and watched it regularly but then we went back to cable and I lost it. But, yeah, DB751(Edit: actually Aguilar has Ron's amp listed as a DB750), TH500, Avalon DI and the cab is miked! Who knows how he's getting that tone...except may him, the engineers and soundman. Could it be his Elixir strings or active Bassline pickups and preamp?.....Yeah, I looked up all his gear I could...I'm sick and need help.:help:

I've had a SABDDI since the early 90s. I still have it on my pedal board as it is able to make a tubey "oomph" sound that even my SAPBDDI can't quite get. I have an RPM and it still doesn't quite do it (although it's a great Pre)
The combination of SABDDI, and a Precision can be great. Is it an SVT? No. Of course not. But it does fit in a gig-bag.
Maybe the OP should just try it. It won't hurt anyone, and he may find his personal tone Nirvana.

I put a set of cobalts on today, helped tremendously. The daddarios were not helplng. I tend to wait too long with the Bongo before changing strings. It has so much tone adjustment, that I don't always notice the strings not having any twang. Once again thanks to everyone for all of the advice!

Yup, too many variables. I think the biggest affects on tone are playing style and strings.

I really like my Markbass tube Compressore. Can't vouch for their other equipment.
Maybe you got out-fingersed. So many variables. Maybe he's using the sansamp to drive the preamp. I find my RC booster and even my boo pedals clean boost puts a new vibe on just about any head. Simplest thing is to borrow somebody's sansamp or boost pedal and load up your preamp. see what it sounds like.

Think someone already said this but I was surprised how different what you hear in the band differs from what the audience hear. Our sound guy is new go it but good. When he camd and stood in the band he was amazed at the difference. I got an extra long lead and stood out front while playing. Even I was impressed how I sounded and I really don't have fancy gear!

Agreed. It's got to be the 751. I heard a small duo at an outdoor/patio tavern set up. It was an acoustic guitar player/singer and the bass player was using a Geddy Lee sig jazz bass and an Aguilar 750ish something through 2 1x12 cabs...best tone I've ever heard. And I'm a (converted) P bass player. I immediately googled Aguilar the next day and nearly cried at the price :crying: One can dream...
