Gig + Multi FX = Good Idea?

Would any of you guys (and gals) gig with a multi effects processor and nothing else, besides a tuner and feel confident that you'll sound good?

I think I could MAYBE pull this off for a friends party basement gig later this month. My guitarist says I'm crazy so who's right?

Well I don't either but, it's a space issue. We have to fit 2 guitars, me, drums, and a PA into a basement. A BASEMENT!

You can make it work but you probably won't like it. Can you try it out before the gig?
Sounds like you don't have a choice, so, go for it. Its not like you're playing Lincoln Center.

I use the boss gt10b almost exclusively it has never let me down, and I can get every sound I want and need out of it,

to me, it beats a pedal board with stomp boxes in every way possible

so I say go for it

I've been using a Boss ME-50B exclusively for a couple of years now, and it's been great. I have 3 clean presets programmed into the first patch bank that I use most of the time, and occasionally switch into stompbox mode if I need fuzz.

If you're willing to commit to it then yes, but if your gonna squirm it may leave a scar.

I use a Zoom B2 as the anchor for my board and do many gigs with just the Zoom B2.1u.

multi works great for me on tour, wanna trave light so i just pack B3 + G30 wireless. and ripped it up on the indonesia tour.

most of the time i won;t know what the tech rider was jacking my input to, sometimes a SWR, sometimes a SVT some other time "i got no idea" but i got a nice DI out of the B3 and a strong PA + sub carry my tone across really nice.

Yeah, if it's a quality multi I'd have no problems. As always, have a backup for everything.

Friends party, sure..... FWIW Victor Wooten gigs with a Boss GT-6B (along with his Hartke amps). I used to use a GT-6B with an Ampeg rig but have since gone to single pedals.... A good multi-FX can get you 70-80% IMHO, but most are very lacking.

Yes. The two guitarists are bringing combos the drums are gonna be unmiked (duh) and the vocals and bass are going straight to the PA. I looked at the Boss multi effect (can't remember the name it was a used one at my local shop) and the Digitech BP355 my shop doesn't carry Zoom's.

Overall I like the distortion effects from the Boss but, it is beaten to high heaven (A plus for a punk band). The Digitech however is just calling my name for some reason also I could buy both and take the other back but, used gear is non returnable.

Any thoughts?

I'm in a wedding/corporate band. We bring our own full PA every gig and I run the sound. I use a Digitech BP 355 my guitarist uses a Digitech RP 355 and keyboardist uses DI straight to board. I'm pretty happy. Bring along a BDDI for backup

I once gigged with a digitech bp355 and it was okay for gigs, but I personally think it's more suitable for recording. the zoom b2.1u would be a much better choice for gigs and recording.

I have gigged with multi's many times. Boss GT10b, ME50b, and ME20b...they worked great. I now use seperate pedals because i can afford them and its easier to reach unity gain with seperate pedals. but if i was on a budget and had to go back, id gig multi's again.

I just got a BP355 yesterday with every intention of using it live.

Pretty intuitive board so far.
