Gigantor! the 7 string behemoth... for Ahtur

uhhh, here...I think.

Work has been brutal. I've been heavily involved in the government's MHA program and our system went live last weekend after many months of 80hr work weeks. Hopefully we'll ramp down and I can build at my regular pace.

Wow that does sound brutal, hope all works out well for you.

Cool build again!

off topic: I always smile when I see your sig, do you remember that thread Wilser?

I never forget anything! of course and I also laugh whenever people come to my cube and ask me about it, I have it on my marker board in big bold letters ;)

the beast is cracking it's egg, this is gonna be one fiery dragon.

Great work Will! Seeing your Basses on here is getting more and more torturous by the day, and I'm getting to the point now where I NEED one of your instruments!

I'm going to do my best to earn enough so that I can contact you soon about it, because I could never make instruments like this myself!

Keep up the fantastic artistry!

you say thats 17 inches wide? where will you get a case, ive been lookin for one that fits my rainbow bass, its 14

Let me chime in here, I've researched a couple of companies that do custom cases, and through my local music shop that's independently owned, I settled on Blue Heron cases. They make some great stuff and I know some guys who have their mandolin and dulcimers in their bags. Calton cases, and a rack of other companies will do custom stuff. I've got a list if you're interested, just PM me.

that was totally uncalled for! it was an honest mistake on my part but you do it as retaliation, that's just cold, cold man, cold. ;)

We'll use something light colored for the binding, birdseye maple likely.

Yes, it's big! Ahtur designed it based off of my KSC but made it bigger to feel more like an archtop than a bass guitar.

you can't go wrong with a big bottom, using soft woods and chambering like this should be a low-hump beast...like Ahtur said "I'll be able to pick up the grease off the floor with a piece of bread".

Make no doubt about it. This baby will not be fat-free by any means. I want bottom that will scare your cardiologist (but trans and animal free grease only please).

Since I play with a little bit nail though, the tone I think will be not just fat but have some sweetness too, fingerwise. Stay tuned!

17mm spacing.

Here it's starting to take shape.

And two more for you!.. This is how she will look with the finish on it. I was going kind of for the AJ look but with two pups. Also to adjust what Wilser was saying regarding the shape/size, it was partly inspired by an archtop guitar I used to have, but also I wanted that size because ergonomically it fits me better. So I actually tested the size and dimensions out by carving it out of two solid pieces of fairly dense styrofoam until I had what i wanted. I'm a tall and big guy with lonnnnnnnnnnnng arms. So smaller basses tend to get lost on me. I wanted an instrument that was comfortable to hold (I prefer to sit) but will look beautiful as well. Wil has definitely knocked the ball out of the park on both aspects!

More of the finger lickin' good neck!
Jumbo frets until 7th, medium frets until the 13th and then banjo from there on... thanks to Wil she shall be very much playable with that 35" scale. Annnnnd the neck will be asymetrical. Wil is my hero!

Wil had hipshot make these 'specially for the smaller headstock...Also, the bridge will be a black ABM with piezos... take advantage of the hollow wings on babygirl... Wil is doing some mods on the audere pre to make everything switchable. Trying to get the best of many worlds. Primarily I'm looking for this to be a jazz/fusion/some funk/world instrument. Got my fingers crossed! And yeah I know ultimately its all in the hands, but the right bass does help!
