Gigging Bassists - How is Summer 24' stacking up?

Better things than ever have fallen through for me lately.

8 club/bar gigs and 2 festival/outdoor gigs between July and early September. Works for me!

Have a private party in July and a possible Wedding gig after that late July

7 gigs over the next 11 days, then we slow back down to 2 per week into September. This is about as busy as I want to be.

A lot of gigs are outside and many are on the beaches. Here in Florida it's "backwards" and Summer is our "off" season - way too hot and humid. Booked out thru the end of the year starting August. I did about 70 gigs last year and this year is looking better. SOOO glad we are past COVID when everything shut down and most venues eventually closed up shop.

I am in Florida and yes outdoor gigs can be rough in summer. Thankfully a usual outdoor spot is doing indoors now and we have that show with a duo on Saturday. I have 8 shows in July between a 4 member band with girl singer and the duo that uses programmed drums so we can rock out. I do most of the booking for duo and just have to hustle a bit to get gigs. We are the only duo in the area doing the usual classic rock and also working in some modern rock that nobody does around here.

I'm going to call "summer" mid-May to mid-August, when college is out of session (since that's my day job). In 2024 I've got 14 gigs booked, not counting church services. I'm counting 13 in about the same period for 2023, so I guess no significant change.

We had 17 on the books from Mem Day through Labor day. The majority of which are in June and late Aug so we can all have some time for family travelling/vacation/summer stuff.

But, the weather has not been overly cooperative.

5-10 gigs a week and I'm not really hustling to try and get them. Nashville is a crazy town.

The first six months have been a solid 2-3 gigs a month . For the second half of the year , I only see 6 bookings . Have a recording session in Nashville to look forward to and a "little thing" in Scotland .

Our 90s HipHop and R&B band has about 40 scheduled for the summer months (May - Sept). June has been busiest (2-3/week).
Plus weekly church services (different band/material obviously).

I had more than 40 gigs between three bands last year – mostly between May and October. That was a bit too much. I have 30-ish on the calendar for 2024, which is more manageable. My main cover band is being more selective now that we have a good following. We've gotten our foot in the door of several local community concerts and a couple of desirable venues. My wedding band soundman gig is a little lighter this year too, which is fine with me. They are fun gigs with a great group of people, but it's typically a very long day. The money from the wedding gigs is good, which supplements my GAS. I've been able to acquire a lot of nice gear.

The guys in my band also wanted to black-out all of August for family vacations and weekend getaways, so that has reduced the number of potential dates. "Family first" is OK with me, and I'm enjoying more free weekends than I've had in a while. And as chronicled in another thread, my lead singer is still recovering from pneumonia and his voice is day-to-day... two months into it. Fortunately, we have a couple of capable singers who can sub for him if necessary. In the meantime, I'm not booking anything new until he's 100%. It's just too much work and stress to pull gigs together with a last-minute sub.

I've been trying to get this party-in-the-park gig in my hometown for years. I was finally in the right place at the right time. There's nothing better than having a booking agent say "yeah, I've heard of you guys...let's get you on the calendar." It's gratifying when the hard work pays off.

My schedule is busier than ever. Pretty much booked every weekend and some weekdays with fairs, festivals, events, etc. My two subs I use are also pretty busy, so I'm having a difficult time getting some gigs covered so I can actually be at home occasionally with my family.

14 shows booked thru to Labor Day, and that's with a full week off in July, and a full 2 weeks off in August,
all within a 50 mile radius of Buffalo, NY. Already looking forward to the fall...

We’re as busy as we want to be, playing virtually every weekend between now and September. Lots of outdoor shows and a couple shows as opening acts for touring tribute bands at big venues. It’s going to be a fun summer!

Started off slow, main band's been working less than last year, had to pickup some other gigs that are helping fill in the holes. Currently on track for last year's 115 gigs. We'll see.
