While I can sympathize with the apparent lack of respect that you've been enduring in your present circumstances, I feel the need to challenge you just a bit on your "as a bassist" framing of it.
To be clear:
There is no necessary or automatic lack of respect that pertains to being a bassist. While there still are some douchebag musicians who may look down their noses at the bass as a second-class instrument, and look down their noses at bassists as second-class musicians, this attitude is mostly confined to the ranks of amateurs and hacks, and in no way represents the views of real musicians. And it in no way defines the instrument itself - nor those who play it.
Most folks get about the amount of respect that they demand. The sooner you get over your inferiority complex (if that's what it is), the better for you - and ultimately the better for
all bassists.
