The "new" one should replace the older model, but from what I understand, the only change is the addition of the balanced XLR out (to drive the powered enclosures).

Wow! Do you know how much the new 212 will be, if they will have the same weight and wether GK has dealt with some of the enclosure issues that some of the other units had? Are the new version available now?

If I had to guess, I'd say that the price and weight will likely stay the same (at least in the short run). Regarding any other issues which may have manifested themselves in earlier GK combos, I can only say that GK - like many companies - definitely tries to address any QA/QC issues which might be brought to their attention.

It's 49 lbs, but not sure on the price.

So any of us with an "older" MB212 are out of luck with regards to adding a powered enclosure..

Perhaps. I'm not sure if the DI out would have enough gain to drive the powered enclosure. You could always use a small outboard pre, like the Stewart UDP-1a, and split the signal coming out with a Y cable. Of course, you'd need to convert to XLR to plug into the powered cab, but it could be done. Or you could use a preamp with a balanced out, like the Radial Tonebone Bassbone.

You should be able to drive them with another preamp, provided that it has a balanced XLR output or you have an appropriate cable to make the connection.
