GK MB 200: Part Two

Usually I would agree that two 8 ohm cabs would be best, but in my experience this amp needs all the wattage pushed... if possible and a 4 ohm cab would give you that. I have reached the 140w max at 8 ohms multiple times.... not playing overly loud either. that said, I often find my wattage needs are higher than most... so maybe its just me.

Nah, the MB200 works fine with 8 ohm cabs - and two 8 ohm cabs is better than one 4ohm cab (all things equal).

You need the MB800. :bassist::hyper::bassist:

The volume (SPL) gain of a 4ohm cab vs. an 8ohm cab (all else equal) is so little - I'd go with an 8 ohm cab so a second cab could be added for bigger gigs too. For example, the super duper efficient G-K NEO112-II would be a good choice, and its lightweight enough to haul up/down stairs too.

I decided to go with the 4 ohm GK212MBEii because realistically I am not going to be in a gigging situation where I am looking to add a second cabinet. I really wouldn't ever need to have that flexibility. I figured I could get the full 200W with a 4 ohm cab and since the 212 can handle up to 600W I can upgrade the MB200 in the future if I ever need to.

Oh okay, and I bet your really liking your MB200/MBE212-II rig too. :)

Good plan Stan.

Hey guys, what is your favorite standalone cab when you use your mb200?
I have a 4 ohm 212MBE. In fact it's so kickarse I bought a second and use them as subs for the PA - at 34 lbs you can carry two at a time :cool:. I have about 600 watts into each. I normally use an 8 ohm SVT210AV or two with the MB200 - one can usually do the job if you don't mind maxing out the MB200.

Alright, gentlemen, I'm gonna be getting my MB200 in the mail in a few days, and a nice pair of Sony MD7506 Headphones to go with it. Any suggestions as to how to EQ the head to mimic my Neo 410s? The headphones are supposed to be really transparent, so they would be flat according to my audiophile friends who recommended them. Basically, should I raise/lower any of the EQ relative to my normal setting to make up for the cab's natural voicing? Thanks!

Experiment? The room you are in affects how the cab sounds as well and with headphones that variable is missing.

Got mine today! LOVE it! Haven't hooked it up to a cab yet, but as a headphone/play along rig it KILLS! Can't say anything negative. Just need to enlarge my pedalboard (got a DIY one in the works to incorporate the MB200 as part of a "suitcase practice rig". Gonna hook it to a cab soon, sure I won't be disappointed!

Could somebody please measure an mb200 from the tip of the knobs to the back edge of the amp?

I am waiting on delivery of my mb200 and I want to build a 1u micro case for it. The website says the depth of the amp is 8.0 inches but I dont know if they are including the knobs or not.

If anyone could help with this who owns an mb200 I'd appreciate it. :)
