GK MB115 tweeter issue

I have a problem with my MB115. I suspect it to be a floor model, as it wasn't shipped in the original box, and the tweeter seems to be blown.

The tweeter comes on and off by itself, and sometimes it works some but not fully. When I pluck hard it sounds distorted.

I have emailed the seller Musikinstrumente bei Session Music several times, and tried to call, so far to no avail. I might have to sort this out myself, and if a new tweeter is the fix I guess I could live with that.

So my questions are, can any of you experts think of anything else than a blown tweeter that can cause this? And where can I get a new tweeter? Musikinstrumente bei Session Music is evidently no option. :) Direct from GK?

Thanks.

I have a MB115 as well. Worthless feature, mines extremely noisy, I even get some hiss when its off, I'm just going to disconnect mine. Horns without an atenuator are useless in my opinion.

I really like GK products, but I wish they would take a hard look at little problems like this.

If yours is under warranty, contact GK. Their customer service is top notch.

Thanks. I emailed GK as well, no reply. But I'm in Europe, so AFAIK it is the dealer who is responsible.

I can't stand the tone without the tweeter. The amp hisses somewhat, but nothing I can't live with. I agree that an attenuator would have been nice, it's way too much fully open, but nothing a little treble roll off (either on bass or amp) can't fix IMO. :)

I love the tone from the MB115 (when the tweeter's working;), and the weight is just amazing. I hope I can get this sorted out.

I think you must have gotten one of the 1st ones made.... GK had some major problems with the tweeter in the 1st batch of MB combos.... Mine hisses when engaged a little but I don't use it....... Bob Gallien is a frequent Talk Basser so he may chime in.....

I will try to find a new tweeter, and replace it myself. It will probably void the warranty, but that isn't worth anything anyway it seems.

I just thought it was strange that it comes and goes, and seems to work OK for short periods of time.

I would call GK and call the seller if you have the number. Its its brand new and you bought it brand new, it should be under warranty.

Unless you dont like the sound of the tweeter, theres no reason you should have to replace it yourself.

As a side note, my tweeter was a little hissy when I first got the combo, then after a day of playing it went away and mine is dead silent and adds just the right amount of sparkle.
