GK MB200 - "chain out"?

Just seems kinda weird that a 1/4" jack could switch from a headphone out to a balanced TRS. It will be interesting to see what GK says....

Ok, got a response from Brian Clark @ GK.

"You will need to use a ¼” to xlr cable to connect the powered cab to the chain output on the head."

So then I asked if my head would work since it did not have the "/chain out" by the input jack as in the pic on the website. His response:

"It will not. This is a new feature on current models. "

:hmm:

I did ask if this could be retrofitted to earlier models and am awaiting a response.

And I wonder how many people are going to buy they "old" version not realizing it doesn't have the capability to work with the powered cabs. Now I'm forced to not buy their product that I thought the amp was supposed to be able to work with.

Which leads me to taking the amp back and exchanging it.... GC staff (no surprise) was not aware of the "upgrade" . They were willing to check existing stock and none of them were the newer models. :(

Hmm, so it seems I was correct after all. Anyway, it's still a great amp - but, maybe you should return yours and wait for the newer model.

Due to the higher +10dBu signal level and true balanced line needed to properly drive the new GK MBP cabinets, I seriously doubt there will be a retrofit for the older model MB amps.

I agree whoever is in charge of the GK website should make it clear only the new MB model amps have a chain output - for example, "All our new model MB heads have a chain output to connect an MBP powered extension cabinet" so there is less confusion.

Anyway, GK just keeps making newer and better amps - this is a good thing.
