GK MB212 Ordered!

I've owned my MB 210 close to a month now... Exceeds what I was looking for: light weight (I'm old school, heavy = loud) and pounding loud! Just bought a tilt back amp stand (again, old school, bass amps belong on the floor) and was pleasantly surprised. First few times I gigged with this amp, my cell phone, keys and then finally my wireless receiver flew off. The amp stand kept the MB 210 from sliding across the stage and cured my bad habit of piling crap on top. Now all I need is a dust cover bag, I didn't see one on GK's website.

how well does it deal with a low b?

Posted this on the other GK thread.

For all of you that are waiting for shipping info on the 212, this is the response I got back from Brian at GK.

"The MB115 is also shipping this week. The MB212 is about 7 or 8 weeks away."

So 210's and 115's this week to resellers but the 212 not for 7 or 8 weeks. ;-(

Just placed my order for a 700RB-II and a Neo 212-II. It's 8 ohms, so I can add a 115 if I need more WOOMF.

Re mixed cabs...

...Players who opt for the 1x15/4x10 option do so assuming that the 1x15 will add bottom. Most of the time it won't. The vast majority of 4x10s have more output capability in the low end than 1x15s.
Conversely, the assumption is also made that the 4x10 will have better highs than the 1x15. Also not true. While most ten inch drivers have higher response than most fifteens when you put those tens into a 4x the midrange dispersion is halved, so the fifteen can actually have a more useful midrange output. All things considered you're usually better with either two 1x15 or two 4x10 than one of each.

The MB212 has good power and easy portability.

My heart sank when I discovered it is "MADE IN CHINA". Looks like GK is slowly shifting their production overseas.

Bummer...

I don't think that the production overseas things is all that new? And like Bob Gallien stated in a post, it's GK's own factory there. They built it and run it. It's not a contracted factory which is what a lot of companies use. GK owns, runs and has full control of the factory!

They can make anything in China just as good as they can make it anywhere else. It is just that in the music biz, allot of the time, it is the lower priced product lines they are mass producing over there. I am sure if they wanted to, they could have someone make a Fender in China as good as any American Fender. They just don't. Yet.

Does not mean it's junk. I'm sure that if you go through your own house, you will find that MANY things you own are made in China. Sure I prefer a U.S. made amp, but that's why they can sell these at this price-point. Lotta features and amp for this money.

i guess i've just never quite understood this. i want the best product i can get for my money. if it happens that it's made in china, korea, or wherever else then so be it.

if a US made product offered superior overall value, then i'd be glad to shop american. but for the most part, i've not seen that to be the case.

YMMV.

I just ordered one. I got 15% off plus free shipping. It's just want I need. I play lower volumes in an acoustic band but do need some punch to get out over the dobro, banjo and screaming fiddles.

VIVA GK!

Keep us posted on the 212.......
