GK MBFusion 800

Are you saying that playing at my normal level I can blow my speakers?

Depends on what is 'normal' and also the quality/power handling of your speakers. A 'high powered amp' run at low levels is never an issue. Digging in hard with a very high powered amp turned up into a small cab can get you into a bit of trouble.

HOWEVER, the vast majority of speakers will start to compress and/or fart LONG before you can do any thermal damage. As long as you aren't an idiot, you should be fine:)

I think Bongo's point was if you are actually using the 'headroom', you are by definition putting out more power. There is a bit of a myth about 'having unused power is good' (headroom). You will only benefit from a higher powered amp if you are reaching the power output limit of your current head, and have a cab that can handle the extra power both thermally (cab power rating) and more importantly 'mechanically' (will you reach the mechanical limit of the 'pistoning' of the drivers... xmax/xlim' long before the thermal limit of the cab.

Most who hear the advantage of 'headroom' are either driving a smaller amp too hard (and hence benefit from a bigger amp), or are hearing different hi passing, gain structure etc. that makes the more powerful amp sound 'bigger' in some situations.

I don't know what your normal levels are. I don't know how dynamically you play, or whether you use a limiter. Mainly I wasn't talking about you in particular. :) But in general, if somebody has too much available power (for their speakers) and thumps some big spikey notes with no limiter, then yes, even at their otherwise normal levels they could damage the speakers.

I'm not to worried about blowing my speakers. I've been using a 800 watt WT800 into a 210 since 1998 and never had a problem. Now I'm working with a 800 watt fusion into a CN212. I know I'll never need all the power this thing puts out,but I like the lights. Crazy right!

That will be smokin', and the cab thermal rating is actually pretty close to the power output of that head. Should be great. You obviously don't want to push the head to its limits, but that would be massively loud, and again, the cab will give you some warning signals (compression most likely) prior to damage. Should be a great lightweight rig that will massively outperform that little Eden 210 for sure!

Loud as hell with landing lights. Look out kiddies.

Yes I know I'm a sucker for wanting cool looking gear, but it has to sound good to.Time will tell. I still have my Eden rig. I do like colored lights. Here are 3 of my home stereo receivers. I know it's off topic, but I'm trying to show I like tube and SS sounds.

2string1 ! ! ! Your photos look like my Dad's living room for many years. I just sold his Fisher XP-2 set two years ago - he bought everything new in 1965 at an audio club in Germany; I think Darmstadt. My sister still has the Marantz and Fisher but the Sansui was sold about 10 years ago. We still have the old Empire six-sided cabs with the woofer pointing down, a cool looking tweeter facing out, and a marble slab sitting atop them. Those were the days! He also bought a huge heavy Grundig short wave set. Guess all that was the reason I had to pay my way through college. Ha.

"fans loud?"

they're no louder than the fan on my 12 year old dell laptop I'm on right now.
I'm not terribly "fan sensitive" though.
they're supposed to move air, they make some noise.

I don't know. My Eden WT800 can sit in my livingroom all day in idle and the will never come one. This GK sits at idle and will come on every 20 minutes. Maybe because the case is so small.

So what? You seem set on finding problems with all this stuff that don't really exist. Yes, when you put a very high powered amp, and THREE preamp tubes that actually are hit with high voltage (versus the 'marketing tube' in the Eden that does very little) into a very small box, you need some forced cooling (even with cool running, efficient class D power). You would not be able to hear that fan during an acoustic guitar/bass duo in the smallest club imaginable at 'acoustic guitar' volume.:p

Also, class D amps tend to warm up when NOT being pushed. It is just the nature of the design (not sure of the physics behind that). Zero issue. Yes, if you turn some class D amps on and let them sit, the fan will eventually come on. This is a good thing, and has zero impact for the gigging musician. If you are mic'ing in the studio, there MIGHT be an issue with most bass amps that have a fan though, and there are many solutions (e.g., preamp only versions of many of these heads) that can even take care of that minor issue.

KJung, you seem to have a bit of an attitude. I don't recall saying it was a problem. If you look at my first three words they say" I don't know" I am new to this class D stuff and need to ask questions, if you don't mind. Thanks... To quote you "class D amps tend to warm up when NOT being pushed" I didn't know this. It's the complete opposite of what I'm custom too.

I have the same Macintosh... Before the name became synonymous with the MAC/ computer.. HA
Great Piece.. I also have some old Tube Dynaco preamps, FM tuner and Dynaco power amps.. All in Cherrywood cases...

yeah: weird how the fans come on when not in use, versus when you're playing.
I called Jason at GK about that, and he explained just what KJung said, in big technical words I don't remember ;)

Didn't mean to sound snippy. I get like that sometimes:)

Yes, the new stuff is not like the old stuff. Rarely is:)
