GK700rb/210 combo issue. Need advice!

I was more or less happy with my rb combo until one day I got to A/B it against another rb head. Well the problem is that my head has considerably less volume. The other head was twice as loud.
Sadly I didn't have enough time to really find where the difference was but I think I stumbled upon my problem. When I plug my bass into fx return it is as loud if not a bit louder than it is through preamp volume set at 12'o clock

Is this right? The -10dB pad is off, so no gain reduction there.

Would much appreciate if someone with 700rb could confirm my theory.

And, if this is my problem, what do you think is wrong? Maybe just input jack? Pot?

Thanks!

Yeah I a/b'd the amps on same speakers and the settings were the same. However I didn't check where the volume defficiency comes from - preamp or power section.
It seems rather unusual that I'm halfway through gain on preamp(volume) which is just as loud as if I were going straight into powersection without any preamping. :/

Well that's my other problem. :) No cash for tech. I'm not goin g to fiddle with it on my own. I have a friend who's adept at electronics. Hopefully he'll be able to diagnose my amp. I just thought I asked if anyone has experienced the same problem.

Also: For GK700rb users - is your amp louder through preamp flat and volume at noon vs. effect return bass only?
