Going for walks, seeing some cool cars.

From the earlier posts about my love for slotted wheels, specifically hearing "ET Slots" I clicked on a video from Backyard Barn Finds on YouTube.

I'm also a big first gen Camaro fan. Well....

With headers that large, I'd love a look under the hood.

And those 14" wheels?? There's a size that has gone the way of the steam locomotive, carburetor and full size spare tire.

It was a 396 car, some stuff happened, he had to put a 327 in it, apparently those side pipe headers were all he could find to fit.🤷🏻‍♂️ Guy seemed genuine, but not much of a car guy... mechanically. It's a good watch if you like that sorta thing.

No way, my hometown too. I wonder where in Altoona that was. Maybe it's down by where the ballpark is now, Lakemont Park when I lived there. We were right off Park Ave. My aunt and uncle were behind us on Shand. I'm picturing this is where that Camaro lives. Up in there.

I wish 2 of those 4 things (14" wheels and full size spares) would come back. These days manufacturers are moving away from spare tires altogether! And I would love to spend less on tires, but 17s seem to be considered small these days...

There's not too many current cars that a 14" wheel would fit on. With the large diameter brake rotors these days, you need a 17" or larger wheel to clear the calipers.

This was one major factor in getting the Mazda3 Hatchback instead of the Impreza RS.
No spare from the factory is nothing new, it was an (expensive) option on my Mom's Chevy Cobalt..... the idea being the lighter the car is, the better fuel mileage it will get.

Myself, a spare is a non negotiable requirement so I went to the local pick n pull and got her a spare for a fraction of what GM wanted for the same thing.

I was born there (1975), but only lived there for about 4 years. Then it was a vacation visit once a year till I was like 16. We lived off 14th St and 18th Ave. My dad was from Tyrone. It had been like 30 years since I had been there, a few years ago my wife, dad and I took a vacation to Altoona and such. It was to cool to see all of that again. Even hooked up with a cousin I hadn't seen since then too.

This years vaca I'll be in Hershey in September to see Iron Maiden. Plan to stop in Altoona and hit Philadelphia too.

IIRC, ours had a 307. Neither my brother nor I were under-the-hood guys; the only thing we had done to our Chevelle was dual exhausts. That car got great gas mileage!

And here's a shot of it on the road, courtesy of our cousin Greg (that's my brother driving, and you can barely see me leaning forward and smiling in the passenger seat):

Bottom pic contains everything that was cool about the 70s.

Anthrax..... Metal Thrashing Mad is my theme song.

"Racing down the road
In a street machine of steel
Gears are jammed in full
I'm the madman at the wheel
Got my foot pinned to the floor
You can feel the engine roar
I got thunder in my hands
I'm metal thrashing mad, yeah
Metal thrashing mad, yeah
Driving like a maniac
Can't go any faster
Burning up the road
Headed for disaster"

I gathered a few speeding tickets driving to Wango Tango back in the day. Took until I was in my 30s till my insurance rates were anywhere near normal.

Never in any cars as cool as yours tho! :roflmao:

My one and only speeding ticket was in 1986. After an argument with my now ex, I was driving the Camaro (I still own) and was clocked at 72 in a 55 by a NY Trooper.

What happened next still pisses me off and I should have fought it, but being 19 with hair halfway down my back and driving a Camaro, I was already guilty.

So, I was pulled over on an interstate highway and stopped on an off ramp. After giving the officer my paperwork, we all observed a car coming the opposite direction trying to exit the interstate.

This individual was completely polluted, bouncing off the guard rails and whatnot.

Next thing I know, the Trooper car is next to me with the shotgun cop saying "follow us."

So now we're pursuing the drunk dude in a beat up Duster and luckily he didn't go more than a 1/2 mile before Roscoe & Enos cuffed and stuffed him. Tow truck shows up and then they come back to me saying "sorry about that, here's your ticket."

That chase could have turned south in no time and people could have been killed. Stupid me didn't pursue getting the charges thrown out and 40 years later I'm still bent out of shape over it.
