Going Out With A Bang!

Tonight will probably be the last gig with my current band. It's a long story but basically it's due to too many issues with the band leader. We have exchanged several heated emails this week so I have no idea what the vibe will be like at the gig. It is also the drummer's last gig. He gave his notice a couple weeks ago. This band has been through several personnel changes in the past year. I have a feeling a lot of it has to do with the BL being so difficult to work with.
Anyway, what are some creative ways to "go out with a bang"? Have any of you ever done something crazy at your last gig with a band?

I'll never forget the final gig with my last band.
I was so burned out I hadn't played in maybe 2-3 weeks.
Never sounded better.:)

I would personally just try to end it on a good note. Tell everyone no hard feelings (that's what I did),then go out quietly.....But remember to rock first!

haha! I did this with a band once.

The bandleader was a psychotic nut case, as it turns out, and after 20 years of playing still couldn't tune his guitar properly.

so to spare the details, we had all had it with him. he'd embarrass us every time we played out with his douchebaggery, and he's line up the worst gigs.

so all of us were ready to quit, but we had one gig left on the books. we all agreed to bite our tongues until after the show, we all just played it cool to his face so the gig wouldn't go thermo-nuclear (we didn't care but thought it wouldnt be fair to the other bands playing)

afterwards I left silently, the singer gave him an explanation and the drummer basically told him to get ****ed. he spent the next two weeks spewing abuse to all of us, mostly via txt.

didn't feel bad or unprofessional telling this guy to suck the big one because he was such a lunatic and everyone who had ever worked with him once would never work with him again, I felt that my professional reputation would actually be benefitted by being on this guys **** list

Sorry to hear that the band & leader didn't work out. Hopefully your gig went smoothly, and you can now look forward to finding a better playing situation. Good luck and have fun in your search.

Is there any chance the other band members who left would want to rejoin as a new band?

Well the gig went great last night. It turned out to be one of the better gigs we have done in a while. I didn't do anything crazy, just danced around on stage a bit while playing and went out in to the crowd a couple of times thanks to my wireless. The BL complimented me afterward on my playing and my energy level. Now I'm indecisive about what to do. With the new drummer coming in maybe I should stick around a bit longer and see what happens. I still think the BL is a bit of an over the top control freak but I like the music we are playing too.

Bands are always a package deal, and there will be some things you like, and others you'd prefer were different.

If also helps if you don't GAF about what people think (like you at the last gig). Allows you to have more fun "out there".

The band's dynamic will change will the new drummer. JMO, but I'd stick around awhile, and see what that dynamic is. If something better comes up in the meantime, you can explore it, but you may find the changed band's vibe to be more to your liking than in the past. If not, the door will always be there...

+1 It isn't just the band, you don't want to burn bridges with the venue or any musician's in the audience who might be looking now or in the future.
