I've been wrong once or twice, tuners make more sense than the wood, thank you for the correction.
Yeah, I'm aware the double wrap isn't ideal, and intended to shorten the strings. But I can't imagine how it could break the headstock. The string tension at pitch is the same regardless of how much extra string is wound to get there. Tuners, maybe. Strings? Eh, depends, maybe from extra friction or something. I suppose the extra thickness of the tuner's capistan could affect alignment of the string with the nut. I'll get rid of it, but mostly because it's inelegant
Correct. And from what I've read here, you won't have any other warning. It's best to re-wrap the tuner at the first sign of over-wrap.
Not an amazing used price but it looks like it has Labella copper tapes on it.

Hey, has anyone tried the 21" Aquila Red Thunder 91U Strings on a Micro Bass? I thought I had seen this somewhere in this thread, but I can't find it. If so how did they work? I imagine it would work fine, but I thought I would check.

I bought a set to use on my custom bass uke with the feedback that they are smooth compared to the white Thunderhuts, but a soon as I got them and put on one, I found they are not smooth, certainly not like the Road Toad Pahoehoe I like.
Hey thanks for that info kohanmike. I am more concerned about the difference in scale length than how smooth they are. I imagine that puting 21" strings on a 23" bass will work fine, maybe increase the string tension a bit, but I would guess it will work ok.
I'm finding any of these kind of strings stretch so much the original length is almost irrelevant. I'm going lop off a good 6" from mine after they've been on for a few months.
Has anyone tries the Pahohoes on the GT 23" ? The stock strings are garbage and totally indented all over the place from the frets.
I also find the stability of the pitch to be terrible. I find that the longer I play them the more they warm up and become even less stable.
On the positive side, I was able to file the nut down to help the intonation. I found some old TB threads about using old wound wound strings to file down the nut slot exactly. It seemed to work pretty well and the intonation is much better, but still not great.

I had pahohoes on mine. Worked like a charm. I ordered the longer set from road toad.
I use the longer set of Pahoehoes on my MBass but they still took quite a bit of time to settle in and I had to re-install them (with considerable stretching) several times due to too many windings on the tuner posts before they started to settle in. They work well enough on the MBass but I found I prefer the sound of my UBass with the Pahoehoes over the MBass. While I find the MBass considerably more comfortable to play with it's 23" scale and slimmer neck profile, the tone of the UBass won out.

I have them on my Microbass. They take a long time to stabilize, but they work great and sound great! As Gorncaptain said, I ordered mine also through Roadtoad and got the longer set.
I guess I didn't make myself clear above that I use Pahoehoe on my GT. I think the intonation, sound and feel are really good.

No. I've had them on for about 8 months or so and they are fine. They just take longer to settle in
