Golden Corral = Human Feed Lot?

I don't know what buffet's are like in the US but in Canada they rule (but are usually more expensive).

All-you-can-eat's are great. One of the nicer pub/restaurants in town here has all you can eat ribs on Wednesday's for $20. It comes with choice of side and soup/salad bar.

When I lived in Montreal there were two really good ones I liked. One was a smorgus-board for $20 and had everything from crab legs, grill your own shrimp, ribs, chow mein, lemon chicken, chicken wings, wonton soup. desserts, hundreds of trays.

The other was called Hot and Spicy. $35 for your seat and was a lot more upscale, aimed at upper class business meetings and such. You ordered from a menu but you just pay for the seat, and you can order 5 dishes each at a time. They had a lot fancier things on the menu and I realllly recommend it. Not a thing to do all the time, cause it's expensive as heck, but definitely fun. If you get a group of like 8 then you get a discount because you can buy the table instead of the seat.

I'm just up here visiting, but I came across a buffet called Tuckers Marketplace. Not a buffet fan myself, but I was already in the door so what the heck. Very, very good food, wide variety, clean and neat, and surprise, pretty expensive. 28 bucks before the tip and drinks, but I will probably go back before I leave.

Golden Corral....ah, the crappy white trash buffet.

But Golden Corral, to me, is kind like listening to The Ramones. Yeah, it's trashy, and not necessarily all that good, but there are sometimes where there is nothing else that will satisfy.

Back in the 90's the only thing on the buffet was the salad. You could go to a Golden Corral and get a decent ribeye cooked to order (as opposed to cut to order) in a real kitchen (as opposed to on the buffet line) with a side of fries fresh from the fryer (as opposed to sitting in a steam tray for an hour) and have a one trip to the salad bar while you waited for you steak.

It was actually pretty good back then,...now it's meh. The wife and I have been to the one in town a few times. I call it the Golden Feeding Trough,...although human feed lot is more appropriate. I've always been full after one trip and felt a little like I didn't get my money's worth.

I have been to a few buffets over the years:

- Country Buffet - all-you-can-eat American food. Really, really nasty. Fatty meat. Made me hurl.

- Various Chinese Buffets - ranging from disgusting - to - best Chinese I ever had. We had one near my old job that was the Official place to go when we went out to eat.

- Local Indian Buffet - probably the best eating I ever had.

Never been to a GC, but, if if I went, it would be with - low expectations.

Let's face it - many chain restaurants are disgusting, and some of the buffets are - double disgusting.

Never been to a Golden Corral, but I enjoy some OCB every once in a while.

OCB FTW!!!! when we lived in minneapolis wed always go to the OCB in Richfield or Burnsville for our "holiday dinners" because we had no family. aside from having to elbow your way through all the Molis, all you can eat cornbread is not a bad gig.

as fo Golden Corral i HATE that place. fat folks with respirators shoveling food to trying to buck you down with their rascal scooter, always packed and heaven forbid you accidentally show up on steak night. its hell.

theres a special type of GC called GC Homestead or something and it has a mexican , asian, italian, bbq and salad section. all different seperate buffets. its pretty much awesomeness personified. this is how they should be and its huge, much more spacious. theres one in Boardman ohio

I havent been to Golden Corral since I quit smoking pot nor a chinese buffet either

the only buffet I go to nowadays is the Indian buffet
and if I go to have Chinese its gonna be some dim sum

It's scary. Genuinely. When my Wife worked at a grocery part time, she used to see these, ehem, "twin brothers" that would be seated in the window (edit: of the Chinese buffet next door)...they would consistently still be in there (or come back?) when her 4 hour shift ended...this happenned often.

Yeah - now we're tawkin. We'd misbehave and then go to Beefsteak Charlies - and eat every shrimp they had in the house.

see im fat but im active so when i see people who got kinda fat, lost the will to live and joined the sweat pants brigade it seriously urks me...because youve eaten your way to disability of course the answer is all you can eat sodium and lard. i cant going ito a place that looks like an emergency shelter for an evacuated wal mart.

I hate Golden Corral. It just makes me sick. ****** food and behemoth people shoving food down their throats like they haven't eaten for weeks. Also people act crazy in the lines; cutting and just being really rude. Also every damn time I've gone people put their dirty plates on my table.

Wife and I love Souplantation buffet (same as Sweet Tomatos on the east coast). I eat a lot of salads but don't stock 100 different vegetables as it's not feasible so once a week or so off to "the Soup" we go.

Sunday brunch ($25+) I'm ok with, $10 daily buffet's not so much.

I do love the El Torito "corn mush" though. Yum.
