Gonna Quit Drinking for a Month

I've found that I AM able to go out and have a good time sober, but it helps if the friends I'm with don't drink(much or at all) or get high. I have noticed that my tolerance for sloppy drunk folks wanting to talk to me at gigs has gone way, way down. Especially the last call, professional drunks. I hate to be judgmental but I find these people to be repulsive. So I'm choosing my gigs more carefully now. If the band and music aren't really good, I won't be sticking around. It's gotta be a good 'hang' because I no longer have my booze crutch that made every gig seem super awesome. For awhile I thought "oh, this just isn't as much fun sober." It took some time but I figured out that CRAP just isn't as much fun sober. So I avoid crap.
And it's REALLY nice never having to worry about getting home. Especially New Years Eve or other holidays where cops are out in force with checkpoints. And it's REALLY nice waking up the next day feeling good. With all my money in my pocket. : D

Yep! I made it out to the bar with my work buds after we got off last night. I ordered myself a water and instantly got a reaction from everyone (including the bartender:smug:). They gave me a little nudge to order something, but, when it became apparent I was content with my water, they quickly went about their ways. Only once was I asked later that night if I wish I had gotten a few beers. I told him no, and he said that was cool. Overall, there was no pressure to order anything, and I still had a good time shooting pool. The interesting thing is that it seemed like everyone was drinking quite a bit less than usual. We work 2nd shift, so it's not uncommon for us to stay until closing. Usually at last call, everyone will go up to order one last round, but only one person went up last night. Everyone else just nursed what they had left. I woke up today feeling awesome, and I was pretty happy about the money I ended up saving

I have cut way, way back recently. Since college, I haven't generally been an excessive drinker, but a couple beers every evening or two adds up to a belly. I haven't cut it out completely, but I have cut way down. The belly is shrinking, too. It's a good thing. I never had any problem navigating through drunk people while sober, and I don't spend a whole lot of time in places people get completely blotto anyway.

It's great that your friends are supporting you. Those are good friends.

OP, its day 14, no drinks yet. Are we still together?

We are! Things are going well. I've leaned up quite a bit, I'm sleeping better most nights, and I even have some extra coin in my wallet :D Overall, I'd say my plan has been a success!

I know I'll end up having a few beers once I get to Epcot, but I think I'll otherwise keep this no/very little alcohol thing going once I'm back from vacation.

Today is day 93 for me. Between working in bars, and DC being a generally drinking town, my alcohol consumption went up. The fact that I don't really have to pay for it didn't help.
When I first stopped drinking it was only going to be for a month or so, but then I did some research on the medications I take, and now that I take testosterone I realized that drinking was not for me.
Working in a bar/venue really makes me happy that I'm not so much a drinker anymore. Between the customers, and the hungover coworkers, I'm really happy that I don't function like that.
Also, my head and body feel so much better. I sleep better, I'm less sad. The only thing that would make this better would be if my fiance didn't see this as having a permanent DD. She has been getting drunker and drunker when we are out and about, the other day I had to Uber across the city, at 4 am, to get her from a party she had accidentally gotten wasted at.

Good on you! You got a buddy here.

Well, I have not have any beer so far but I have drink two bottles of wine, now here is the problem, in the past two weeks I started educating myself on wine and now I have six bottles and a 12 bottles wine cooler cellar coming my way. The good thing is that I have lost 10 pounds so far, I am going to China for the next four weeks, I hope I can keep my routine.

Four years ago I quit drinking for 3 months as my triglycerides were real high (over 600 when 200 is considered a maximum). I didn't want to start taking pills so quit drinking and started exercising and eating better. I lost 25lbs and got my triglycerides down to 134. Felt the best in years.

The bad news is I need to do it all over again! At least I know I can.

It might take a bit of focus. My memories of China are.... hazy. The folks I was there to see were 'enthusiastic' drinkers.
