Lesson Here: if they want your stuff, they are going to get it. my neighbor told me about his friend who had his big, heavy gun safe stolen, only to find it a few days later downtown with a blowtorch hole cut in the top and the contents emptied. thanks for your concern, though.

and for the record, i didn't lose anything: someone broke into my house and took my stuff.

i was several messages behind on this thread. thanks everyone for your help.

the control plate message idea is a good one, i'll have to try that. also, thanks to the gentleman who will be keeping an eye on the Winston Craigslist pages. lastly, i just posted a thread in the Stolen Gear forum.

it may be a longshot, but i have a good feeling about this one turning back up. will keep you posted.

From experience - get to the local pawn shops and dinky music stores today if possible. I found a stolen bass in a local music shop within two or three days after it had been stolen from me; since I had filed a police report with the serial #s and pictures, upon being notified tha the bass had been located, the police repossessed the instrument and returned it to me after it was processed.

Luckily, the idiot thief used his driver's licence when he pawned the bass and was caught.

If you want to check Craigslist in your state Invalid Link Removed is a good way to see ads from your entire state on CL.

It has a way to see only ads posted today. So you can bookmark your search results and check it everyday real quick. See if you can track it down. Sorry man...

Don't forget to check ebay. I helped recover a stolen G&L ASAT that way once. That one was stolen from a friend's music store. Man it felt great! Hope you catch that sucker and get your stuff back soon. When you find him, kick him hard for all of us.

Got a couple calls from the Police today: they found some of our stuff & have some people in custody! Don't have the bass yet, but I'm optimistic. They did find the gun, which is awesome! Go Raleigh PD!

Man, I grew up in Raleigh and that makes me really sad to hear this. It's an ugly mark for the City of Oaks. I don't know where you live, but there are a couple pawn shops down on Hillsborough St. that could fit the bill for this, and if the thief is trying to be really sneaky, there's that Music-Go-Round over at Crossroads in Cary. Not many people would be thinking about stolen gear over in Cary. Just a thought.

Man, I'm really sorry for your loss. That really, really stinks.

Krusty, I just saw your post & this thread, so sorry about that. It makes you feel "violated" when soneone comes into your house like that, what creeps. I'm glad some of your stuff has been found, may the SB2 come home soon!

That sucks man, but glad the cops have found some of your stuff. Chances are they'll find the rest if they found some of it. This happened to me in Cary last year around this time. My old band's house was broken into, and my jazz bass and 4 other guitars were stolen from us. They tried to sell 3 of them to Guitar Center on Capital blvd, and our friend that worked there recognized my guitar player's tele and called him cause he thought the guys seemed shady. When he found out they were stolen, he strung them along saying that the sale was processing while the cops were on there way. A couple hours later they found the rest of the guitars at their apartment.

BUT, if our friend hadn't been there that day, Guitar center doesn't have to check against state records for used guitars like pawn shops do. That's actually why these kids took them there, they had been busted a few times selling stolen goods to pawn shops so they went to GC instead. Had our friend not spotted it, it would have been much more of a hastle for us to get our guitars back! So check there, let them know what was stolen, go across the street to sam ash and do the same, and maybe try Music Go Round too. The people in that music go round are low lifes, scumbags and a$$holes though so they might not be as willing to help.

yes, i stopped by GC on Sunday and left a description with a guy who emailed it to the other GC's in the area (Charlotte and G'boro, i believe). went across the street to Sam Ashe and he had me write the info on a blank piece of paper and tacked it to a cork board. not quite as technologically advanced as GC, but hopefully effective. i will call up Music-Go-Round, though it doesn't sound like they will be much help!

tell me about it! good thing my new SB-2 arrived on Monday from a deal already in the works. it helped ease the pain, slightly.

I had an argument with a former co-worker about this more than once. I don't ever support what I call the "crackhead economy". If it's too cheap, it's stolen. Plain and simple. This goes for bikes, guitars, stereos etc. What goes around comes around you know?
I remember on my 30th birthday someone broke into my apartment and stole my CD collection my comic books and my Dat machine. They totally skipped my bass and my computer though? weird. I bet they were dissapointed to find that dat machine didint play CDs. I bet they were happy to find the $500 band fund hidden inside a classical CD case.

What really blew was that they took my new package of tube socks. That was low.

I am convinced the first bass & amp I had were hot - I was 15 and my father bought it for me from some guy ,in an apartment, in a crappy part of town -- both the amp and the bass case had stickers from a local rental company on them... I was too young to know what that might have meant. Live and learn. I've since run across similar gear (working at a music shop in the '80s) -- Bad karma, run away or call the cops.

don't know if i mentioned it here or not, but...they stole food our of our freezer! my kids' chicken nuggets and a pack of frozen burritos. but the worst was the pretzels. i brought home a pack for him (he's 2), no larger than an airline snack. i said, "hey buddy! you want some pretzels??" and he started freaking out: "PRETZELS! PRETZELS!", only to find they had been stolen, too. poor little guy sobbed for his pretzels and had to settle for pepperoni. that really made me mad.
