Good, cheap, loud SS head?

1) It will be used for gigging with a loud rock band (let's assume I won't be miced).

2) I've got less than $400 bucks. I've already got the cabs sorted out (B212, B410).

3) I like to buy used, I'm a bang for buck kind of guy.

4) I'm looking for classic rock tones.

Is this possible on this budget? I just need some suggestions for sleeper amps out there?

Go to ebay and look for a GK 800RB or a 400RB...great deals on them and they are classic heads... I picked up a GK 400 RB for $200.00 shipped in mint plus condition...

the 800rb is a 300 watt and even running ONE of those cabs at 150watts with an 800rb would be enough. I've used my 800rb with a 115cab and was loud enough to play a large stage with 2 guitar players both running half stacks and all tube heads.

+1....used G.K. 700 or 800. I ran a G.K. 800 (300 watts at 4 ohms) into a 4 ohm Ampeg SVT 810 cab for many years. Played some very big jobs. "NEVER" had a problem with being heard!

If you are looking for used, then go after a Carvin B1500

I picked one up not too long ago for $325 on e-bay.

I'd also say 800rb, yes 300 watts into 4 ohms but don't forget it also has a 100 watt (at 8 ohms only) that can be run in bi-amp (you can select the crossover point) or run in full range for stage fill!

My baby rig is a Behringer Bass V-AMP PRO I picked up cheap last night, to actually a pair, but one would suffice Peavey CS800S PA amps. They are 1200W each to 4 ohms mono-blocked and will also run stereo to 2OHMS each channel. I have less than $350 in each of the Peaveys including shipping. so mega power for $425 bucks.

I added an 8U SKB rack then and a Monster Power 3500PRO conditioner which added another $450 though. BOB
