good gig amp for under 300$

Well, if you want a 100W or better amp for under $300, there are plenty to choose from. If you want an amp you can realistically gig with, whether 100W will work depends on the rigs you'll be playing against. If the group is largely acoustic, you'll be fine. If you're expecting to compete with a 50W tube amp, 100W may not be enough.

As far as recommendations, I have the Fender Bassman 150. 150W 1x12 plus horn. I use this as a practice amp, but it can get quite loud, loud enough perhaps for gigging purposes DEPENDING ON everyone else's levels. Sound is great; I use it as both a guitar and bass amp, and it works amazingly well for both. It's something like $350-400 so a bit out of your range, but if you can borrow a little extra dough I think you'll be pleased.

I'd recommend a 2nd hand Hartke HA3500 (or even a HA2000)amp & a 2x10" or 4x10" cab to match. As I'm in Aus I dunno what U can get as far as cheap cabs go, but any Peavey or Hartke cabs are good value-as are both well made & work well & are surprisingly cheap atm. Used Peavy amps-like a Mark IV would also be good enough!
