Two great classics for slap.Jazz bass
Stingray
1) The player’s knowledge and technique are the most important aspects for “good slap.”
Chuck Rainey sure played some tasty classic slap lines on a P with flats, Peg, for example...Although a P bass isn't my first choice

Great thanks
Status basses are well outside the OP’s stated budget. They are, indeed, great for slap though! If you are really looking for non-Fender shaped objects, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Status...most of their models are good for slapping, but the Kingbass model is a quintessential slap machine. Everything will be colored by the graphite neck though. It's just part of the sound of Status basses, so you'd have to want that specifically. I tried a few Status basses, and you just can't dial out that graphite "growliness".
I have a 4 string Keisel Vader headless, with a birdseye maple fretboard, that I enjoy for slapping. Great quality made customizable basses, at very reasonable price points.

I don’t recall seeing any used graphite Status basses for 2K or under lately. I’d expect the asking prices to be substantially higher as Rob is no longer making graphite necks. But maybe I’m not looking in the right places…Agreed if new, Status prices have definitely kept up with the post COVID price surge, but a sub $2k used Status can definitely be found...though not likely a Kingbass there are lots of other great models to choose from...but you never know if you shop around.
