Yep, I remember getting the CD from the grocery store and trying AOL for the first time. I met my wife in the Seattle chat room.

I still remember the floppy discs. We would get them in the mail and elsewhere, delete the files and then use the discs for our own stuff.

Yes, AOL was a great source of free floppy discs for a while. Reformat & reuse.

I still remember the first time we got a local access number and got on AOL for the first time in 1992/1993. It became antiquated fairly quickly, especially at the turn of the millennium, but but it was a pretty cool thing early in its day. I met a lot of people and made contacts/friends 30+ years ago that I still keep in touch with in some capacity. Way before the internet in general truly became toxic. Good times.

The only reason I'm aware is because I have a couple/few friends who still use an aol.com email account. Sucks to be them, I guess.

Edit: I see that Yahoo is the parent company, so hopefully Yahoo will maintain those aol.com accounts.
