aol will soldier on, it's only the dial-up service that is being elminated (best i can tell)

Upon hearing this, I Googled to see if Earthlink is still a thing because I never see Earthlink e-mail addresses anymore. It's still around. Earthlink was my first ISP (2001; I was late to the party compared to a lot of people).
Ah yes, Earthlink, I had them from about 2004 to 2010 or so. That was my first experience with the modern "Hotel California" subscription. Try, just try, to get on the phone to cancel your subscription. You simply can't do it!

My email is still @hotmail.com. People either think it's weird that I still have it, or they've never heard of it. Or they don't care or notice. Most don't care or notice.

Honestly, was anyone still using dialup to access the internet/AOL??? By the way, I still have and use an AOL email account (as well as a Yahoo email, Juno and a Gmail account.

Been staring at this on my desk for 20+ years. I really don't even know where it came from. Dragging it around. Why? Never used it, never will.

Times definitely change. My American kids who are in their 20s know how to use a landline but have no clue of what dial-up really was about. The concept of having to wait to connect to the Internet is entirely foreign to them.

My AOL user name is "bassist". This is still my primary email address. 
I set it up in the mid 1990's.

I'm still using Earthlink. Actually I was with Sprint, who was absorbed by Earthlink. I still use my Sprint email, since about 1996. AND, I still have dial up, as part of a deal for access at a second home....hard to explain, its the evolution over 30 years. I actually tried the dial up last year, and it works...very very slowly, as in about 10-100 times slower than dial up was 20 years ago. Now why would that be?
Less hardware dedicated to maintaining dial-up connections I suspect.
