Google ads scrolling pages down

I think this is the best place to post this.

Recently when I open a page on this site it gets scrolled down to the bottom ad banner.
Like a "go to last post" thing but this is like "go to bottom ad".

How can this happen? Is it something the Google ads are responsible for?

It's happening with two particular ads: Audiocap F&T capacitors & another which I can't remember.


It's a minor inconvenience but it gets annoying.

I don't mind ads at all on TalkBass, since they are rather discrete and bass related. And they help pay for the website.

I thought I'd give notice of this issue, maybe it has to do with the site.


EDIT: It seems to be happening only in the Amps forum where the ad I mention comes up.

Sorry if it sounds like I am whining.

Google ads won't do this, so I think it's something else - like the fact that TalkBass will scroll you to the last post in a thread, if you click on the 'last post' arrow etc.

Next time this happens, don't click anything else and just copy/paste everything that is your browser's "location" bar, in a post here, and I'll take a look at it. My guess is that it'll have a "#post6505488" at the end of the URL, which is sending you to a specific (last) post.

It doesn't have the "#post" at the end of the URL.
It happens wether I open thread by clicking on the title or clicking on the "go to last post".

I did what you said.

This is what I got from clicking the Amps forum in the Bass Guitars forum menu:

It often takes me down to the bottom of the page, the bottom ad banner showing at the top of my browser.
The ad is exact on the top, it's not the exact bottom of the page, my browser does not show lowest of the page like "copyright TalkBass, etcetera".
It's alway the ad for audiocap.co.uk that shows in this situation. No problem with other ads.

I've also seen it happen today that the page opens random in the middle of a thread without a post on the top of the browser. I mean a post placed exactly at the top as in "go to last post" or as in following the link of a quoted post.

I understand that the type of ads by Google depend on where you are. (US, Europe, Australia,...) So I assume not everyone has this problem.

I'm not a browser expert, but I know that it takes javascript code to manipulate browser windows. I'll report this to Google (I'm certain it is not acceptable in their policy), but for now, try disabling javascript in your browser. What browser are you using?

I'm using Internet Explorer, latest version I guess... Windows Vista.

The problem is still occuring on that particular ad.
So I did some investigating myself.

I left-clicked ads and clicked "properties" to see what the url and html-code.

This is what I got:

the ad causing a page to get pulled down (mostly in the Amps [BG] forum):

a random ad from the Off Topic [BG] forum (not causing a problem)

There is a significant difference in the code, notice the bold part in the url from the ad causing my problem. (I placed an extra "t" in "http" so the urls don't show up as links in this post.)

I'm just a complainer I guess.

But now you have notice of this issue.
This may be a precedent for the future when others report this problem.

I'm surprised no one elso has run across this. Perhaps other people just ignore it.

I was having this problem too. Download ADBlock Plus and TB will return to the way it was a few years ago. I also highly recommend Mozilla Firefox as your browser. I'm not getting ads in my Yahoo mail any more w/AdBlock.
