I guess it makes for "good" watching. One day somebody is going to shove a cutting board where the sun don't shine.
I don't know about him. In the kid version he makes one kid cry per season.
He tries to do this about every adult episode.
It's a formula. Reality TV at its worst. Otherwise the show is great.

Unfortunately stereotypes precede us on both sides.
Folks in North America joke that folks in the UK have bad teeth.
Folks in the UK joke that we are all idiots and are married to our cousins.
In some cases it's true, which is how the stereotype came about. I've known some Britons with really horrible teeth, including Lemmy.
I can't say I know anyone who has married their cousin, but I have been embarrassed by my fellow countrymen more than a few times.

Yeah but before we married our cousins (i use we loosely) they married siblings.

At one point he was tied for first as having the most Michelin stars. There are a LOT of chefs out there and he has more than one Michelin star restaurant. I'd venture to say it takes a certain amount of manic passion to do that in that field especially getting a restaurant to 3 star status. So, yeah, passion for food aplenty.
If all I knew of him was from the shows he's done I'd still respect the man and, dare I say, like him as well. I especially enjoyed his travel show that was fairly No Reservation-ish. He was clearly very interested in learning indigenous foods and preparations. He was obviously driven to do it right.
He also has a big gob
I personally don't mind some folks like that ( two in my personal life come to mind right away ) and think I would be worse for it without their unique view and delivery

I've always suffered from eating McDonald's. I've sworn it off for life and I don't miss it.

I prefer it, because you always know where you stand. They won't be talking about you in whispers behind your back.
As a retired cook and ex chef de cuisine myself who has eaten at a few of his restaurants, I think he is a talented and passionate chef who has spread himself and his brand far too thin, not keeping standards as high as they should be and making dubious choices in partnerships and lending his name to restaurant ventures.
I despise his kitchen demeanor as well, whether exaggerated, real or fake. Exciting television I guess but very silly.

He's a very successful chef. If you've ever worked in a kitchen, you know that like guitar players, skilled, successful chefs are real douchenozzles.......
I used to work for an Englishman who was from up North, and had the mannerisms of a Scotsman. He was a brilliant man, but he would not hold any criticism back, and would just blurt it out right in front of everyone.
It was actually quite the motivator not to make silly mistakes.

The way he bends over and places his hands on his knees when he's questioning somebody or berating them is a combination of a way to belittle whomever he's speaking to and an opportunity for someone to punch him in the throat.

I really hope he hasn't given any aspiring chefs the idea that his is an acceptable way to run a brigade.
I have done stages (internships) with 4 different famous chefs, and worked for two others, and they all had complete control over their kitchens and the full respect of their cooks. The few I met who yelled and got violent were simply A-holes, and their kitchens were no better run but a lot less pleasant to work in, I would bet.
