Got a huge problem with Harley owners

If it weren't for all the Ford Falcons and Mercury Comets and '65 Mustang 4-bangers, those Chevy's wouldn't have anyone to make them look good on Mulholland Drive.

Mustang 4-bangers didn't appear until the 70's. Before that, all of the Mustang's were either 6-cyl or 8-cyl (unless I have totally missed something)

My experience with bikers has been the opposite. For every arrogant Harley snob I meet, there are nine bikers who are kind, fun to be around, and tolerant of others.

Honey, you need to meet better bikers. ;)

My bandmates are bikers. They used to hound me about buying a bike and riding, since their old bassist used to ride when them. I told them I would love to just as soon as The Harley Fairy shows up at my house with a good bike, and The Time Fairy gives me, oh, four more hours of daylight every cycle of the sun. Oh, and The Money Fairy would have to come by with the insurance and bike payment every month, too.

So, they love me for who I am, now. They still wish I would drive the trailer so they could go to shows in their Harley, but, you know, if wishes were horses we'd all be eatin' steak.

At least half my friends are bikers, too. They know we can't afford that hobby and don't have time for it right now, but they'll take me for rides every now and then.

(Thread derail warning!)

Hey Rodent, just noticed you're moving to Charlotte? :)

You're gonna be just over an hour from us, when you get settled, you should come up for a visit! :D

(We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread! :hiding: )

Oh, back on topic:

My experience with "bikers" in general has been much more "good" than "bad". Even though I was always a "rice rocket" guy, they always treated me with some respect. As one once said, "we're ALL on two wheels out there!".

Some of 'em even understood my reasoning for not riding Harleys - I'd rather RIDE my bike than work on it!

In life some people just like to circle around and make others feel bad. They figure if you are feeling lower than them, then somehow they are higher? Who even knows.

The best thing to do is not even get into it with someone like that. The harder you push back, the harder they try to push you down. And whatever they are insulting you on is actually their weakness. So if he's arguing with you about being a biker, then he has some issues on being a biker himself.

It sucks that it ruined the concert. Don't let an idiot like that get you down, that was his whole goal anyway. Just keep doing what you do and let the rest hang! :D

Yep, that dude was just an Unhappy Person. They come in all flavors, colors, and shapes. He was cranky, and wanted to bring someone else down so he could feel better. Its not "bikers". Its that one unhappy, cranky biker dude.

+100

When we played the Bayou Circuit(south Louisiana) in the 80's, there were a number of GREAT bikers at those gigs. Most would push you out of the way of an oncoming car and get squashed themselves. And most quickly silenced the very few like the Unhappy Person you met. One in particular we called "Fridge"(this was WAY BEFORE the Chicago Bears guy) who was the size of the doorframe(width & height). He used to carry our small-bodied light man around on his shoulders at gigs for fun. That and watch out for us like a true friend.

Sad in this life that some people have had their Happiness Plug come loose and all of their Happiness has leaked out forever.

FA GID DA BOUT IT!
Next time, just walk away. Unhappy Persons Disease(UPD) can be contagious.

A-holes are found in all walks of life. I've been riding since I'm 13 (cornfields)...almost forty years. I've hung out with clubs of all sorts...ridden with all sorts of people. One thing that I can say is that the face of 'biker' has changed a lot as of late. IMO there are a lot of middle-aged posers anymore. It's why I tend to ride alone most of the time. There are a lot of great folks that ride...the general audience is much more diverse now...good, bad, and indifferent.

That's the reason I still wanna ride! I haven't given up my motorcycle endorsement on my driver's license, and never will, cuz sooner or later I'll be able to afford a decent ride.

I like my solitude. Nothing like jumping in my truck, busting out a brand new album or old favorite, and just driving and listening to music. But cruising a bike is such a different feeling. There's a real solitude there. It's only you on that bike.

GOD I really oughta stop talking about this, I'm getting so antsy I'ma end up asking a bike shop, "Will ya take a trade-in for some Eden gear?"

My biker friends would give me the shirts off of their backs. Not to mention pulling some drunk A-Hole off on me in a bar if needed. For the most part bikers look kinda scary sometimes, but deep down they are some of the nicest least materialistic people on the planet. We could do with a lot more bikers and a few less computer telephone support people IMHO.

Looks like you found the exception that proves the rule.

There's a guy in my neighborhood with a seriously bastardized 76 Pinto, with a 460 truck block. Let me say that again. 460 TRUCK BLOCK. Blown, fuel-injected, evil. There's not enough room in the engine bay to squeeze a business card through. But holy moly is that thing an unpractical driver! LOL And it's painted exactly the same blue as my brother's Stang. We've spent so many Friday nights talking shop at the McDonald's parking lot. He's a cool old codger with a wealth of wisdom.
Thread drift..... I have a buddy who used to have a '73 Dodge Dart Swinger with the V8 from an '88 Diplomat Police car. Really tuned. Effing cool as heck.

So hey...since we are talkin' motor-cicles....

What is the general opinion on the quality of bike made by the Orange County boys?

-Mike

I have some friends that build and ride all out choppers. They maker parts in my shop and borrow my tools  All I can say is ride one before you lay out tons of money. If that style bike agrees with the type of riding you like to do, then go for one. I love the look and what goes into building one but they aren't for me. I can ride one just about whenever I want. A 5 mile ride to the bar is a blast, beyond that, I prefer something with more creature comfort and a rear fender if it's raining :D

Not to fan the flames but I see you're in Detroit (used to live in Lansing)...I bet there's a lot of 'deals' around this time of year in that neck of the woods. :D

Yeah, you're right...riding can be a meditation!
