Got fired from my church gig...

Another door just opened. One of the agency bands I work with that hasn't been at all busy lately is now regrouping as another band and just picked up a minimum of fifteen higher paying jobs, the majority of them on Saturday nights. Including New year's Eve.

See what happens when the honeymoon is over.. But boy, looks real promising.

I emailed if I was overplaying on "Glorious".... His response "NOOOO" loved the energy....

Always fun when you can trust your instincts...

Now you can go home and rest after your Saturday night gigs. Never good to be in church Sunday morning hating life after a late night before. As they say, your karma just ran over their dogma. Congrats.

Edward, I'm one of those guys who could do a gig that gets me back home at 2AM and show up at 8AM with a smile on my face. Never fell asleep either. Don't even drink coffee. I guess I'm lucky in that respect.

Still, I like going back to my old routine. Less drama is a huge plus, the pay more than makes up for what I "lost". I'm at the point where I'm afraid to look this current gift horse in the mouth.

In this week alone I not only picked up a bunch of gigs, I've even picked up more gigs on some of the same dates... that's how well things are working out right now. For example, I got a 1-4PM agency gig in Springfield, VA (that rarely happens that early) and got a call yesterday to do a one hour background music set in Clinton, MD (about 20 miles away) at 6PM that pays $200. This is a jazz-ish gig backing the previous MM at the church I just left. He's never been frustrated with me;)

I think someone has a sense of humor. And I do too.

Well, first of all If they brought you from fill in to full time status it can't be your playing skills. So don't beat yourself up over it. I think it's a matter of too many cooks in the kitchen. Thats always a recipe for disaster. Also with a system of this caliber you need an experienced sound engineer.

I think that most church-going folk don't really realize the expense that goes into the infrastructure. Some of the big churches spend ten-, twenty-, fifty-, up to a hundred thousand dollars plus just on a mixing console. The audio systems run upwards of a million dollars plus and the A/V systems into the millions in total, easily.

The mega-churches are even more excessive, essentially putting on concert-size productions every Sunday in their worship halls - which in some cases are actually old concert halls or arenas. The expense of these sound systems is tremendous, and knowing that there are people in need right in their own communities it's enough to make...

I don't think spending the $$ is a problem if they have it to spend. I'm sure that if this church has 200k in the music budget it has just as much (if not) more in the outreach budget. Remember Churches are a business as well. If you want to grow your business you have to invest in it and music is a BIG part of church.

I'd make a big spectacle of giving the money back.... show up at a practice... That way there's witnesses.

Either way, I'd make sure there's a paper trail. And I'd wait before I gave the money back. I know bogus cashiers checks appear to clear, show up in your account, then take about 2 weeks before they're discovered, and bam, they're gone. Now, I'm not saying they paid you with a bad check, but I just wonder if they'd still be able to put a stop on the check. Would really suck if you gave someone the money back, and someone else noticed the error and stopped the check, and suddenly it disappears from your account...

So I would TELL them about it, but don't be too anxious to hand them cash right away...

I got paid by direct deposit. I'll contact them next week.
