Need a rig, the one I use is totally insufficient for the band I'm playing in right now. I learned to play on an SVT-CL & 810e, and now can find nothing that pleases my ear other than that.. So I found an SvT-VR Used at my local music shop w/ an 810-VR for $2350. Looking around in the used market I havn't found much better a price, as shipping is the usual downfall..

Somebody tell me this is a horrible idea, or it will be in the back of my truck tonight.


-edit- The head shows signs of many gigs, but sounds MINT.

Think about your poor back man...hours and hours with a heavy slab of lumber strapped over it and then, at 3AM, in your beer-induced stupor you have to lift that thing in to the back of your car. Seriously, I think that cab weighs as much as my whole rig and I'm still looking to lighten the load.

Try out as much as you can, but in the end, if thats the tone for you...your back and wallet are screwed.

I swear I've tried everything. I've been through the hauling of this rig at 3am, and it does suck... But alas I fear you are correct. My wallet, and back are screwed.

That sounds like a killer deal.

Just make sure the tubes are in good shape.

A pal of mine is a big SVT/810 guy and a full-time player. He just ain't gonna move that thing anymore because, like me, he's getting older. These days he's using an Aguilar DB659 preamp/power amp setup and is quite pleased with the results.

Do it! The cab has wheels, right? I was like you about not being happy except with a SVT. I waited until I was 32, but now I have it and have never regretted it! Buy a dolly and you can put the head on it if its too heavy!

As long as you have a way to move the cabinet (i.e. truck, trailer) go ahead and get the rig. Might as well get what you really want instead of settling for something that might suit your tastes. Honestly, I've never understood everybody's gripe about the SVT rig. The cabinet has wheels! You just wheel it around and tip it in the direction you want to go. I had back surgery last year and I MUCH prefer my current 8x10 to the 4X10 I was playing at the time. No more bending over to pick the smaller cabinet up.
But enough of my advice. You want that SVT rig. Go buy it and play more gigs to pay for it.
