Got my first ampeg fridge today. Free too!!

So I picked up this svt 810AV for free, but it does have 6 blown drivers. It’s in rather good condition, needs a new grill (silver I think?) but other than that I’m pretty happy. It appears to be a late slm era, but I’m no ampeg expert.

What should I do for the speakers? I’m thinking maybe just picking them up one at a time used when they become available. I do have all 8 but not sure if a recone is worthwhile.

I saw this happening on that same cab because the drivers were dried out by the sunlight.

I quite often see these drivers or other similar ones for sale on FB market place so if you’re patient, that’s the most affordable option IMO.

The cab is divided into four chambers of two drivers. The two drivers in each chamber need to match or one will dominate the other. So IMHO buy at least two drivers at a time.

Eminence B810 is fairly close to the factory Ampeg drivers. (~$123 each) This is probably the most authentic readily available new driver.

You may be able to find OEM Classic and Heritage drivers:

• Classic P/N: 86-032-01
• Heritage P/N: 86-032-01-9

Lots of other choices that may or may not work well. Whichever chamber has to lowest power capacity will determine the overall power capacity of the entire cab. For example, if you go with something like Jenson 10-50 MOD the mechanical power handling of pair may be 50W or less. So the power rating of the entire cab will be 4 x 50 = 200W...or less.

Wow, too bad the Eminence have gotten that expensive. I bought four of them to put into a Bassman Ten combo about 30 years ago. They were only about $50 each back then.

Not sure about the newer versions but the originals had 32 ohm speakers all wired parallel, you could do with 8 ohm speakers with series parallel wiring and still have a 4 ohm cabinet, it will cost though! The jacks look they could use a cleaning and the left side Speakon looks like the contacts are kind of bent.

At first thought when seeing this question is "oh its just new speakers" and then I remembered there are 8 of them.
The jacks and wiring will be cheap to redo, I'm wondering what the cost per speaker would have to be to make it a good deal... $50/speaker?

50 a speaker I can swing. There are occasionally the old 410hn that can be had for like $150 could take speakers out of that

Any repair folks nearby that might be willing to give you a quote on reconing the existing speakers? I think you would still want to do fresh wiring but that might be cheaper than buying 6-8 new speakers entirely.

Looking at the rust on the input sockets, are you 100% sure corrosion isn't the problem causing open circuits?
