GR Bass 350 DI noise

but I think this is a bit much to lecture me over.
Sometimes reading words off a page can leave a lot to interpretation.
I do not think Mr. Agedhorse or my comment were meant to be taken as a lecture, just a word of caution.

These messages were meant in good spirits. Any condescension or feeling of lecturing was not intended in the slightest. This message also included, exists just to clear things up and is not to be taken negatively either.

Because this site is read by a large number of people seeking help, my message was written more as an open letter to all to be cautious with advice in this area.

Understood, my comments were directed at everyone yet at no one.

Follow up... we got home too late last night for me to even try to test out some new scenarios, so I just finished up and here's my findings:

I realized that my Scarlett does not rely on USB for power and had its own power supply, so I was able to take the unit to another part of the house, along with the GR 350 and plug it into an outlet that no other power was being drawn from that circuit breaker (trying to minimize any interference on the line).

The results were nearly identical as my previous findings, maybe a slight improvement, but I kinda expected that, so I wasn't disappointed.

In further experimentation, I found that if I used an XLR to 1/4 plug (DI -> Scarlet), there was no noise at all, and the bass signal came in clear, though lower in overall volume than directly from the DI using only XLR. I'm not sure what technically may have occurred to remove the noise from the signal, but using this method worked for me (prior to this situation, I had used the DI out on another amp into my Darkglass Element to add cab emulation into my DAW - yes, I am aware that I can add a plugin in Reaper for the IR...). I also found that there was no noise when going from DI to XLR into my interface only on certain knob positions on the DI volume with the GR 350 (ie 9:30 & 11:30 are two that stick out).

Yes, there is definitely an issue with the DI, but I am at the point where I'm going to keep the amp (for the smaller gigs) and not worry about the issue (when I do go to sell this at some point, I will be disclosing the issue and my findings and adjusting the price accordingly). I honestly don't have the time to look for a budget friendly lower wattage amp, so I'll live with it.

Once again, thank you to all who added to the conversation, none of which I've taken bad - its been very informative.

Thank goodness no lives were lost as result of my heinously negligent comment.

Wouldn't you like to see the OP get his DI issue resolved without a bunch of likely wrong guesses? That's the whole point of troubleshooting, to avoid guessing.

It's ok not to agree with me, or others here, but we are all trying to help the OP, and I have a LOT of experience troubleshooting this sort of thing.
Yes, I support members getting the help they need. I just don't think you get how you often come across, and based on your responses when people mention it, I wonder if you care.

I wasn't disagreeing with you that guesses were all that we had - I just thought you were being pedantic and condescending about it. Might be a misinterpretation on my part.

So the problem may NOT be with the DI but with the Scarlett’s XLR input circuit if using the DI out as the signal source.

Is your XLR to 1/4” cable TS or TRS at the 1/4” end?

Definitely a misinterpretation on your part.

I have a long history of helping players here with accurate, fact based information and troubleshooting. I don’t play games, I don’t bullpoopie players, and I don’t passively-aggressively insult folks.

Respectfully, your comments towards me continue to border on being disrespectful, or at a minimum, come across as “poking the bear”.

I don't think the valid problem cause (or causes -- we must allow for that possibility as well) can be identified without testing the GR's output independently for inappropriate behavior, and then doing the same for the Scarlett's XLR input. This would be an easy thing to do for a tech with basic audio test equipment and the proper skills.

In this particular situation, would there be value in that? Probably not, because the OP got the configuration working to his satisfaction, so all is well from his perspective.

Where this might be a problem is if, down the road, he wants to sell the GR. Under full disclosure he'd have to say he's not absolutely positively 100% certain the GR's XLR output is noise-free -- even if, in the past, he'd plugged it into ten different devices and there was no noise. That's because "The Scarlett Incident's" root cause (or causes) was/were never identified.
