GR Bass review

This speaker cable that is called a bass cable seems to be a Speakon to Jack cable. At least it has Neutrik connectors, but I suspect its aimed at people who have older speakers with jack connectors and a more modern bass amp with Speakons. It makes no difference to the performance of the cable, but is potentially capable of destroying an internally bridged class D amp if you happen to touch earth with the jack connector. The jack looks as if it has a metal casing, so not recommended. Both positive and negative connections on most modern class D amps should not be earthed. If you have a less powerful vintage amp with a jack speaker output, the cable will work ok. The jack plug is the limiting factor for current flow.

This is the cable I purchased. The AT Cube 500 combo only has a 1/4" TS female connector to connect the extension cab to. The cab has a combo Neutrik / 1/4" TS connector. I just have to trust GR Bass on this one.

If it was me, I'd roll some tape round the metal exposed body of the jack plug, just for my own piece of mind. The manual for the cube 500 combo says it has duel speakon/jack outputs?

Son of a buck, you're right! I had to set the combo on its face and use a flashlight. Because of how they are located (up into them in a recessed area, not directly into them) and that the internal speaker is connected via a jack, I made an assumption. And you know what they say about "assume". So, I'm going to order a Neutrik to Neutrik cable. I appreciate your input. Thanks for taking the time.

You certainly know much more about the subject than I do. I'm just wondering why that cable would be marketed as a bass cab cable if it's identical to a cable being sold for speaker cabs in general. Wouldn't that limit the audience for the product? Wouldn't that be antithetical to a company's desire to sell as many of its products as possible?

Note that I'm willing to accept the explanation that I'm way overthinking this.

Marketing is a test for credulity. Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you read.

Perhaps the same cable is marketed multiple ways? The key word is marketing…

Two thumbs up to The Austin Guitar House for their rapid delivery of a new AT112H. This feather-weight cab packs some serious punch. The woofer doesn't really need any help from the tweeter to sound great. Plenty of what gets you heard in a mix. Two-word description? Super articulate. I don't know anything about the high-frequency driver other than it sounds great. The cab is definitely FRFR when it is engaged. I'm curious to know exactly how little it weighs. I'll have to bring it to work with me and put in on my Hammel scale. I dig the cool aesthetic of the carbon fiber and aluminum. 'Scuse me while I some more...

I had to look up the AT 112H to see what the 'H' meant. "Horizontal". Well, duh. I have the regular AT 112. It has the same dimensions as my 500 combo, so the two stack perfectly. I'm just wondering why you went with the 112H instead of the vertical 112.

There are so many options that you can create any modular rig you may dream of, but you have to decide in advance how you're going to stack them.

What @gtirard said. It was the only 112 model that the AGH offered.

There are so many options that you can create any modular rig you may dream of, but you have to decide in advance how you're going to stack them.

We asked GR sometime ago why there is an "H" on the AT112 cabinet. They told us the 'H' was added to distinguish this cabinet from a previous 1x12 cabinet model. Apparently it's before the AT series existed.

If you look at their website, they've got 2 formats for 1x12, 2 for 2x12 and 2x10

I think they are trying to be too smart, it ends up with too many models, which is ironic because they can hardly deliver enough products to meet the demand

As for the 2x10” version, where we have a 210 “regular” and a 210V (vertical), we have also a 112 cube “regular” and a 112H (horizontal).

The 112H is larger than the cube version and a bass reflex on front.

We often ask ourselves if we could remove some models from the list, but then looking at sales we understand that each cabinet has its own market.
Think about how many different bass players there are.
Everyone has different tastes and preferences.

There's one more to add to your list, Guillaume, the AT Cube 112+. Same dimensions as the AT Cube 112, also 8 ohms, but slightly heavier with a 450 watt power rating (I assume for compatibility with the 800 combo and head).

Well, there's more than one "+" variation actually... Several cabs exist with 2 power ratings

Since the ATC 112 was the only configuration I was interested in, I didn't scan all of their other offerings. The "+" models will make your long list even longer! That just reinforces what @GR Bass Staff said a couple of posts back:

More and more, I'm happy that I found GR Bass when looking for a higher powered combo in addition to my Rumble Studio 40 practice amp. Product quality and customer service are both first rate. And I love supporting really good boutique instrument and gear suppliers.

After some deliberation, I gave my local store a green light to get me one NF 112H cabby with a cover.

Oh my goodness. I was just playing my AT112H with my Ampeg PF-20T. Talk about a perfect recording tone, this is the combo. My 20T came to me with Gold Lions installed in the output section. Having one on hand, and being the curious type, I replaced the Ruby in V1 with a NOS Sylvania, which brought next-level sweetness to every note. I have no right to sound this good...
