Bump!
Larry Grenadier was using the Grace M101 last night. I asked what mic was on his H-clamp, but I've already forgot what it was. Basically the mic was jammed up right against the table, with only a wind-foamy to cushion it. Monitoring was handled by a venue-supplied powered speaker on a pole, head level.
Pleasant chap, more than willing to chat and answer my questions.
What impressed me was he can get in and out of thumb position so fluidly, there's no sensation of being "in" thumb or any other positions. Just fluid phrasing that might span several positions in one go.
Oh, and he was playing a RN Christopher that he'll be playing in Tokyo (with Wolfgang Muthspiel (g) and Jeff Ballard (d).
