Double Bass Grace m101 preamp

I'm on a mic preamp kick.

Anybody using this Invalid Link Removed for DB, either with a mic or a pickup?

Vunz, with your KM 185, yes?

Yes, I do. It's great, but also risky in the sense that it is a very honest preamp, i.e. no coloration, and there are no tone control whatsoever, with the exception of a high pass filter. I also use it with my EUB, and in both cases I just love the fact that it is a pure "wire with gain" preamp (insofar as this is physically possible, of course). What comes in, comes out, only preamplified.

Cheers,
Vincent

Bump!

Larry Grenadier was using the Grace M101 last night. I asked what mic was on his H-clamp, but I've already forgot what it was. Basically the mic was jammed up right against the table, with only a wind-foamy to cushion it. Monitoring was handled by a venue-supplied powered speaker on a pole, head level.

Pleasant chap, more than willing to chat and answer my questions.

What impressed me was he can get in and out of thumb position so fluidly, there's no sensation of being "in" thumb or any other positions. Just fluid phrasing that might span several positions in one go.

Oh, and he was playing a RN Christopher that he'll be playing in Tokyo (with Wolfgang Muthspiel (g) and Jeff Ballard (d).
